Steven Pacey in La Cage Aux Folles
by Clare Juland

On a very cloudy and damp Easter Saturday I arrived at the Playhouse Theatre on London’s Embankment. Never having previously met my fellow Horizon members, it was a pleasure to find myself amongst a group of very welcoming and enthusiastic people. It was also the first time that I’d seen any member of the Blake’s 7 cast live on stage. By all accounts of my companions I was in for a treat and they certainly weren’t wrong!
After taking our seats only a few rows back from the stage we eagerly awaited what proved to be a most enjoyable and highly entertaining play. Set around a Saint Tropez nightclub, Steven Pacey’s character called Georges was the first to appear on stage, giving a joyous tone for the rest of the afternoon. It would be very difficult to choose a favourite from the numerous and excellently performed musical pieces, however of particular note was Song on the Sand. A heart-rending lyric of long-lasting love, it ably demonstrated Steven Pacey’s wonderful singing voice.
Both humorous and emotional, La Cage aux Folles is a lovely story and the whole cast gave an excellent rendition. The troupe included the illustrious Graham Norton as Albin. It was refreshingly pleasant to see him in such a different role and I hope he does more theatre work in the future. Both he and Steven have now left the cast, however they worked extremely well together and brought the play to life.
