The episode: Derek One – Rescue (Carry On Space Sea Devil) The date: Tuesday, October 1st, 2024 The time: 7.45pm UK time Before we go any further, it’s time to introduce the Season Derek drinking game: Here’s the number of sips/swigs per each of these: Avon is knocked unconscious 1 A scientist dies (per scientist) 5 A member of the main cast wears the same costume as last week (per costume) 2 There’s the sequence (or part of the sequence) of Scorpio landing / taking off at Xenon Base 3 Vila drinks something red (per scene) 10 Tarrant falls in love 5 Soolin shoots someone (per person) 5 Slave says “sorry” (each mention) 1 Each mention of “Sleer” 2 Avon laughs manically and/or smiles inappropriately 5 There’s a downbeat ending in sharp contrast to the jangly end theme 10 The final shot of the episode includes Paul Darrow 3 A member of the main cast is killed or stunned (per cast member) 1 bottle of wine / 1 can of beer Back to Rescue, and the crew manage to get off Terminal, but not before Cally goes to pieces (sob!). Meanwhile, none of the crew have ever watched the film The Picture of Dorian Gray, as otherwise they would have worked out the plot much, much quicker; a certain blonde lady gunslinger appears for the first time (the Red Dwarf crew are still in constant orbit around a planet which looks like her bottom); and Avon goes bathing (steady!). Episode in a word: Escape. Character to cheer: Vila for dragging Tarrant out of the underground complex, which couldn’t have been easy. He would have risked his life again for Cally, had the hatch not closed. He saves the day at the end of the episode as well, albeit in a somewhat drunken stupor. Character to boo: Avon shows no remorse for the consequences of his actions in the previous episode. I think I preferred Blake’s self-pity and manipulation in “Trial”. Is Soolin looking lovely this week: Yes. Recognisable Face: Bruno Tonioli (the dead young man that the Sea Devil becomes after its been shot) is very famous in the UK as one of the judges of Strictly Come Dancing. Best line: “There's something very suspicious about a man who keeps his booze under lock and key.” Blake's 7 will return in… Carry On Space Rent-A-Tribe. Vote Og.
