Servalan didn't immediately react to her officer not calling her 'Ma'am', but I doubt he's going to make it back to base.

Yeah, just because they were colleagues doesn't mean they had anything in common.

I think he realised that in that hiccough of his. Whoops!

9m: Servalan flying around on her giant whale-shaped star destroyer

Something less successful about B7 is when it tries to ape Star Wars. At least the space whale ship has an interesting shape.

Generally so far with this episode I can already tell the "no violence ethos" plot, which is an interesting philosophical debate, is not quite landing. Needed another draft!

Nor does it meant that Hal is a nice guy. Never been sure about him.

Dialogue between Servie and her 'Supreme Commander' is pure venom both ways. I know on whom I'd be placing my bets.

'Let's fill up some time with more shots of the volcano'. Why? The poor volcano isn't the problem: Hower's 'deterrent' device is. Make that Hower is.

Nicer than Hower; however, it's all relative.

I've said it before - Servalan is trying to find a replacement for Travis. She tests out quite a few possibles, one way or another, but doesn't find any that match up.

17m: Avon transports down to the planet to look for Dayna and Tarrant

Cally on transport control must've thought about putting him inside the volcano I reckon.

Also, Vila refers to the battle computers and I have to say any reference to them ignites my childhood imagination. Somewhere on Liberator is a trio of military computers arguing with each other and then with Zen. It's good fodder.

Nothing sums up 20th century UK scifi like the PRESIDENT of the GALAXY walking around a paddock with four guards. There MUST be other things the PRESIDENT of the GALAXY should be doing.

Obsidian isn't her real target. What she's doing is trying to catch Avon. She has plans for him.

28m: Dayna and Tarrant in trouble, Servalan springing her trap, an increasingly concerned Avon questioning Zen, Cally is tricked into transporting troopers on board, ships start to approach...

The episode really does kick up a gear in the middle!
