Rewatch Downunder Saturday 13th July, C2 Powerplay
M1795537OCVirn
Start times: Downunder 7.30pm (AEST), UK 10.30am (BST) Tyce 11.30 am (CEST).

C2 Powerplay
In which Avon acquires a wife (well, they did kiss a week ago) and the Liberator a new pilot. Apparently Jenna isn't coming back, and who can blame her? She's probably too busy chasing up a rumour that Blake's been seen on Epheron... In her stead, we meet Mr Curly. I'm beginning to think pilots must have a thing about big hair.
It's all a bit confusing to begin with, since it's not easy to tell which side anyone is on. But then the Feds start shooting each other, for a change, so that's all right then.
Meanwhile, in a different part of the forest, Servalan finds that the purple frock doesn't command nearly as much respect as her usual outfits. But we already knew that. Oh, and Vila has a poorly arm.
"You're not sulking, I hope?"

I'm sorry, the onesie doesn't exist. Can you imagine how awesome that would be though? Extremely uncomfortable but sometimes one must suffer for art.

I've paused it at 1m in anticipation but not before we got a lovely little Dudley Simpson flourish of the main theme over the Liberator flying through space. For people who watched B7 live, did the music sound futuristic or something else?

Such a pity Horizon merch doesn't have B7 onesies! Mind you, some of Servalan's wouldn't be very comfortable.

I think Klegg is the best name in the whole of B7! So very suitable for the character!!

I’d say Blake’s 7 is more important than a hungry cat but you wouldn’t want to get to the end of the episode and find a dead cat in the house with paws stretched out towards the food bowl. LOL

The claws were directed at me, so I deemed survival my best option at that point.

1m: Tarrant pointing a gun at Avon and Dayna who have just arrived back on the Liberator after the war.

Tarrant's first full episode! The character will always suffer a little by not being one of the original seven but overall he does well.

What I love about B7 is that it's often hinted (sadly rarely shown) that our heroes might be bad people. Of all the gang, Del is the one I think this is mostly clearly articulated. He's a golden child with immense charisma but it's often hinted that inside he's a real piece of sh*t.

This first scene is a great example:
* He's working for the bad guys
* He's an officer and he treats his men poorly
* He instantly has claimed the ship for himself
* He's happy to pull a gun on people, possibly civilians or refugees, he doesn't know
* He's calculating how to make it all work for himself from the first frame

Why would Zen listen to anyone speaking into its voice recognition anyway? Wouldn't they need to be pre-recognised? It only allowed Blake etc aboard because it fancied Jenna.

It did sounds futuristic - but there was a lot of futuristic music about then - Dr Who, Sapphire and Steel - so it didn't stand out especially.

I never knew I wanted this until this moment. One of those high collars, maybe a dove in one hand like in Freedom City.

Didn't you see 'The Way Back'? They are all convicts! Thieves, embezzlers, murderers...clearly deserved their deportation.

Hello everyone, sorry I'm late. I have a pain in my hip that makes standing or sitting agony, so I think I will go back to bed afterwards.

6m: Vila static filled call to the Liberator

There's a lovely chaos to these first few episodes of Series C. You don't know what's happening and who is safe at all! Where's Blake and Jenna?!? Can Zen find them!

Hi AA, Sorry to yeah, you have a painful hip. Hopefully B7 will at least distract you from the pain a little.

I think he means especially serious trouble, that should override anyone else's trouble.

9m: Vila is confronted by a man in basic clothing and a spear

Vila: It's not that I'm a coward or anything. It's just that I have a very low pain threshold. Hardly a threshold at all, actually.

Is there anything better than a pasty classically trained UK theatre actor standing around a freezing English park dressed like a caveman? It's the ambition of it I like.

Sorry to hear you're in pain AnneA. I hope this helps. A dose of Mr Curly along with the NSAIDs.
