Dear PC Some tricky prompts this month and it involved a lot of walking up and down muttering to myself...mind you, it gave me something to think about whilst inside the MRI scanner.... So here goes with my first attempt with a lovely piccie by Lurena... A Guiding Hand “It looks like another wild goose chase,” Tarrant announced, leaning against the so called bar in the run down establishment. “I haven’t seen any wild geese,” Vila replied, sipping his rather tasteless drink... “Be quiet Vila,” Cally said quietly, “That’s just an expression.” “Seems a bit silly, if you ask me.” “As a matter of fact, no-one is asking you,” Tarrant pointed out. “All right Avon, what now? Do we chase another rumour?” Avon was silent, mulling over Tarrant’s question. “It does seem rather pointless, but this sighting seemed so sure.” “Maybe he doesn’t want to be found.” Dayna suggested. “Now there’s a possibility, or hadn’t you considered that Avon?” Tarrant asked. “As a matter of fact, yes, it has occurred to me,” Avon replied, “Does that satisfy you?” “It still doesn’t explain where all these rumours are coming from…” “Excuse me, gentlemen, ladies.” It was an eccentric looking man who had interrupted the somewhat heated discussion. “My young colleague and I could not help but overhear your conversation. She is most eager to make your acquaintance. Please she awaits you over there, in that more quiet table away from those who may wish to overhear.” “Who is she?” Avon asked. “She will explain. Please, come.” The man’s female colleague was seated at a corner table. Before her, on the table, were a number of brightly coloured cards. “Well?” Avon was quite brusque; there was something disquieting about this stranger. “Avon, don’t be so harsh,” Cally said quietly. “The man you seek is not here,” she said softly. “That much is evident…” Tarrant began. “You will only find him when HE is ready. And not before. You ask about the rumours…then look to your enemy. It suits her plans that you chase every sighting.” Vila swallowed and stepped forward, “You mean Servalan is behind all these wild geese things?” “I know not her name only that the cards tell of a woman whose heart is black.” “That’s Servalan.” Vila smiled. “So, what do these cards of yours suggest?” Avon asked. “You’re not seriously going along with this?” Tarrant demanded. The young woman placed a card on the table, “That you will lose someone close to you, Tarrant. As will all of you. But your future lies before you, to do with as you see fit until the time comes. The woman with a dark heart has manipulated you as she will continue to do so, unless you see through her web of lies….” The eccentric looking man stepped forward, “My colleague tires. Please take heed and forthwith take your destiny in your hands and not at the whim of that woman who wishes you harm. Goodbye.” They walked away, perplexed. “No more chasing wild geese?” Vila hoped. “You heard the lady,” Tarrant replied. “And what did she mean about each losing someone close to us?” “It’s just a trick. Take no notice.” But Cally wasn’t so sure. There was something about the young woman that bothered her. Blake stepped out of the shadows. “Thank you for that. That should leave me able to get on with my future until the time comes.” The young woman had a card in her hand. She slowly laid it upon the table, her hand shaking. “What is it?” Blake asked “It is death and he is the bringer of it.” “Who?” “The one named Avon….” Cold! And now for the second prompt and another piccie from Lurena! Power Outage “Are you sure it’s safe?” Vila whispered. Avon picked up a wooden ball discarded from Gunn Sar’s interrupted game. “They’ve long gone, Vila. As far away as possible from this place. I watched them leave. Which is just as well, as it helps us.” “It does? How?” “They’ve left the power on, in case you hadn’t noticed.” “And?” “There may come a time when we will have to use it.” “Why, we’ve got plenty on the base.” “But how long for? Dorian was over 200 years old and Orac is still trying to find any plans for that base. I’ve no idea how long all that electricity will keep us going. For instance, there are 5 of us now living there, whereas before, there was only Soolin, Dorian and…friend.” “So?” “In case you hadn’t notice, we are having frequent power losses. We may have to find an alternate power source.” “What about that old power station we found?” “Even that, if we have to.” The base was in almost semi darkness when they got back to the main crew room. “See what I mean,” Avon said absently. From along the corridor there came the sound of laughter. “Well, someone’s having fun,” Vila remarked. “Perhaps we should find out who…” The door to Soolin’s quarters was open when they arrived there. She and Dayna were smiling and giggling. “Perhaps others could be let in on the joke?” Avon asked. “Well, we thought that why you men were outside looking for goodness knows what, Dayna and I would have some down time. A girls’ night in, if you like. Any objections?” Soolin’s tone of voice meant that she wasn’t expecting any sarcastic remark from Avon…or Vila. Vila swallowed, trying to find the courage to speak, “Um, your hair looks nice, Soolin.” “Why, thank you Vila. It’s nice that someone appreciates our efforts, isn’t it Dayna?” “Absolutely. We’ve had so much fun with the hairdryer, curling tongs…” Avon just stared at the various devices scattered around Soolin’s room, including the nail varnish dryer. Both women were happily displaying their brightly varnished nails. “Very nice,” Vila murmured, “Aren’t they Avon?” And then the lights went out. They had to wait until the emergency lighting kicked in. “Well don’t look at us!” Soolin declared. “You don’t think its Dorian’s friend in the basement, do you?” Vila asked nervously. Avon was shaken from his reverie at that point,” No, he’s dead, remember?” “Then what is it?” “I don’t know.” “Listen, what’s that noise?” Dayna asked, equally nervously. They all followed the sound to Tarrant’s room…and then the whirring sound stopped. The door opened to reveal Tarrant. “Oh, hello. Something wrong?” “Yes, very. What have you got in there that is draining all the power?” Avon demanded. “This!” Tarrant smiled and produced an electric tooth brush, “I bought it during our last supply run. It’s fantastic.” He smiled again and almost dazzled the others. “Is there a problem?” Cold! You don't know the meaning of the word cold! Cold is when you have ice on the INSIDE of your window!!
