Chris Boucher tribute rewatch - D13 Blake
trevor travis
The episode: Derek Thirteen - Blake (Carry On Dying)
The date: Wednesday, December 21st, 2022
The time: 7.45pm UK time

A reminder of the Season Derek drinking game – no additions needed, although a stomach pump may be required after the final scene:

Here’s the number of sips/swigs per each of these:
Avon is knocked unconscious 1
A scientist dies/is already dead (per scientist) 5
A member of the main cast wears the same costume as last week (per costume) 2
There’s the sequence (or part of the sequence) of Scorpio landing / taking off at Xenon Base 3
Vila drinks something red (per scene) 10
Tarrant falls in love 5
Soolin shoots someone (per person) 5
Slave says “sorry” (each mention) 1
Each mention of “Sleer” 2
Avon laughs manically and/or smiles inappropriately 5
There’s a downbeat ending in sharp contrast to the jangly end theme 10
The final shot of the episode includes Paul Darrow 3
A member of the main cast is killed or stunned (per cast member) 1 bottle of wine / 1 can of beer *

* For clarification, this also includes when a computer member of the crew stops functioning and when a past crew member is reported dead.

Meanwhile, it’s time for the Blake’s 7 Christmas Special. "IT'S CHRISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSST-MAS!!!!" Lovely of jolly japes with Avon and crew, as they encounter Santa Claus and attend the wedding of Roj Blake and Jenna Stannis, and "Everyone Lives". Woo-hoo!!!! **

** The actual contents of this episode may vary slightly.

Episode in a word: Massacre.
Character to cheer: Tarrant is a bit of a hero in this one – in his efforts to crash land Scorpio (especially, as we’ve found out, he skipped the Federation academy before they taught him how to land a ship). He does mess it up a bit later on, though, by not spotting that Blake was playing games. Mind you, that’s more the fault of Blake.
Characters to boo: A joint award to Blake and Avon, who manage to mess things up even more than usual.
Is Soolin looking lovely this week: Yes. She’s not looking so good for the final minute or so, although she escapes with a flesh wound after I lent her my cigarillo case.
Recognisable Face: David Collings (Deva) has been in just about everything, including Silver in “Sapphire And Steel”, the headmaster in “Press Gang”, and a couple of roles in “Doctor Who”.
Best exchange: TARRANT: “You going to tell us what we've got planned, Avon?” VILA: “We know what we've got planned. Running away is what we've got planned.” DAYNA: “A strategic withdrawal is what we've got planned.” VILA: “There's a difference?” TARRANT: “Oh, yes. A strategic withdrawal is running away... but with dignity.” VILA: “So lay in a course and let's get the dignified hell out of here.”

B7 will not return… EVER! Sad Sad Sad

On Scorpio there’s lots of tension
On the subject of Blake there’s dissension.
After Tarrant’s crash landing, though Avon’s still standing,
I don’t think he’ll collect his pension.

I can't make this one, sorry- have a dental appointment right during the rewatch. Tell me how it comes out- I expect Blake and Avon will reunite as fast friends and go their merry way, hand and hand into the sunset, right? Anyway, have fun !?! and I'll be with you in spirit.

41 years ago, I was getting my two daughters to bed and taking the phone off the hook.
A trailer was shown, "Oh," says I to Hubby, "Something happens to Tarrant!"
I had no idea what was about to unfold......

So I shall now go and get my tea, choccie and biccies.......

WHAT!!!???? You have tested positive for Covid and they still expect you to go into work????
That is so wrong on so many ways. I'm sure they can't sack you as you could be putting everyone at risk. Wrongful dismissal springs to mind.

And this rewatch tonight is in tribute to Chris Boucher. He traumatised me 41 years ago when I was only 8, but I forgive him, because this episode is magnificent.

My Hubby was a postie. He loved it until he got back into the hob he has always done in the building industry. He has said if he was looking for a job now he wouldn'y apply to be one because of what they are planning to do.
My daughter works in the chemist round the road. Anybody who tests positive is told to go home and stay home until they test negative. A customer came in and declared that she had covid...I think she was marched out the front door!!!! Even if your are vaccinated you can still get the thing. Anyway have 2 weeks off and have a rest

Hi, everyone.
Covid again Oracvzen? Sorry to hear that. And yes, it sounds horrendous about your job. Hope you can spend your two weeks off getting better. Covid has a nasty habit of hanging around if you don't get some proper rest.

Thanks for the pics of the new kitchen, Sue. For a moment I thought it was the view out of a starcruiser's viewscreen, - so SHINY. Ditto with the Prawn Cocktail Pringles here, but no white wine. Yet.

OK, on with the fun.
"You're not sulking, I hope?"

Hi TT,
I completely agree. There's a nice obituary in the Guardian by Toby Hadoke. Chris was AMAZING.
