Teal Vandor Convention Saturday 2nd May 1981
littlesue
Well here we go.
This was my very, very first Convention. How I got there...I've no idea. There was no internet back then, not in my case anywhere, but somehow I found out about this convention and found myself on Southampton Central Station waiting, very nervously, for the train to Waterloo. I had my packed lunch, a 110 camera plus my autograph book...and then the train arrived.....
Date: 2nd May 1981
Place: Conway Hall, Red Lion Square, London
This is where I got to meet a whole lot of like minded fans for the first time.
And where I met Mr D for the first time and despite being 26 and half, was a complete and utter nervous wreck when I got to the front of the queue!
Oh, and I hugged Mr Vere Lorrimer because he said I didn't look old enough to have two children!! Lovely man.
Also Peter and Jaqs were there, as well as a very young chap called Mat Irvine...
Here are the photos taken with a very basic camera!!
Update: Pictures now on Imgur but I'm still learning how to use it to post albums. This is just a few of the piccies because I'm not too sure how to link the entire abum!!!So bear with me!!!
Yay!! Huggy saved the day!!!!!!

Lovely to see this post about the Teal Vandor convention. Whilst prepping Horizon's Newsletter #5 ready to offer site members as a Download, I couldn't help stopping to read the reviews of Teal Vandor (including my own - I'd forgotten about some of the near-disasters from the organisation side of things. I'd very recently found my own (not very good) photos from the day. I've bought myself a lovely whizzy new photo scanner fully intending to one day scan every single photo in my vast collection when I have some spare time (though 'spare time' lives in the same alternate reality as 'spare wine' or 'spare chocolate' in cooking!) One day...

I enjoyed looking at your photos, and note that your photo of Jacqueline Pearce looks almost identical to one of mine - including it being very out-of-focus Grin A couple of yours of Paul are much better than any of mine. It was a great day though scary to think how long ago it was!!

You must have been in the same area as me back then. Were you there when that young boy informed Jaqs that his Dad (standing beside him) was in LOVE with her? She promptly came round from behind her table and kissed his dad! One dad red faced, one little boy grinning from ear to ear saying "Wait till I tell Mummy!!!"

Love the photos, littlesue. Such dedication even then. It must be great to reflect on an almost lifetime of fandom.

That does ring a bell, Sue. I remember that it was all wonderful but it's all a bit of a blur for specific memories especially as I think I'd had about 3 hours sleep the night before and was 'working' at the event rather than just enjoying it as you were.

When I read back my 'behind the scenes' review memories of most of what I'd written came flooding back whilst a few I was scratching my head over in a 'did I make that up??' sort of way.

I do remember Vere was talking about 'the new series' though I have no memory of what he actually said. I really want to see video footage of it all...

Uncle Vere kept calling us Boys and Girls...even when it was pointed out to him that there were Mums, Dads, Grannies, Grandads and youngsters there.
And he also brought along the film footage of the beach scene from Aftermath and pointed out those 2 interlopers who appeared above the sand dune and were only spotted in the editing suite!!!

YES - I do remember dear 'Uncle' Vere calling us 'boys and girls', and the Aftermath footage. Bless him. Wink

I love the photos littlesue. Know I know whose they were from an earlier version of the site. Interesting that imgur required an over-18 statement because there were potential erotic images. Potential, yes.Wink
Don't philosophise at me you electronic moron.

Such great photos Littlesue, Thankyou very much for sharing!

Ahh the joys of so called intelligent algorithms. Still so much than other image hosting sites like Photobucket etc.
