UK Rewatch - C7 Children Of Auron
trevor travis
The episode: Colin Seven – Children Of Auron (Carry On Up The Space Maternity Ward)
The date: Tuesday, August 16th, 2022
The time: 7.45pm UK time

In which Servalan has realised that she’s not going to get babies from Avon (too grumpy) or Jarvik (too dead), so decides that to order up a dozen clone babies from Auron; we meet one of Cally’s clone sisters – the rather wet Zelda; the two senior members of Servie’s crew spend the whole episode in-fighting, which is not a good idea when Servie has you marked with her own mini-IMIPAK device; and we discover that Pilot Four-Zero is not keen on Ambrosia Custard.

Episode in a word: Genocide.
Character to cheer: I think I need my head examining, but I’m going for Servie. This is HER episode, which she generously allows the Libby crew to be in as well. Yes, she proves here that she’s a total psychopath and the ends ALWAYS justify whatever the means in her book, even if it means infecting the whole of Auron with a bad batch of custard, just so that she can have babies and have an outside chance of capturing the Liberator. But at least she’s stylish whilst she’s doing it.
Characters to boo: Avon for cracking a joke, and the rest of the crew for laughing at it, while Cally is crying herself to sleep in her cabin.
Is Soolin looking lovely this week?: Yes.
Recognisable Face: Michael Troughton (the ill-fated Pilot Four-Zero) has a very wide resume, as well as being the son of Doctor Who. I always recognise him as Piers Fletcher-Dervish, the sidekick of Rik Mayall’s sadistic Alan B’Stard in the New Statesman.
Best line: “I want that pilot alive. Alive and vulnerable.”

Blake's 7 will return in… Carry On Killing Squirrels
Vote Og.

Brad
Servalan wants to have babies.
And lets loose a batch of space rabies.
Poor Zelda gets fried, Franton sings lullabies,
And Ginka is pushing up daisies.

Mrs Whitehouse was quite vocal about the bad language, and other things that are now all over our screens, back in the day. It was she who managed to get about 3 episodes of the original Star Trek banned and she even managed to get The Saint taken off after a rather nasty punch up with a baddie which ended up with said baddie having his leg jammed in a car door!
So, yes, she may well have taken offence at the pun Mr Huggy.

I disagreed with her at the time. But now I think there is too much swearing. Am I getting old?

No, you and I are not getting old, but the young writers of today feel they have to put all this swearing etc in to be cutting edge!

Yay, Michael Troughton as the pilot. He got such a charge out of his costume- telling us what he called the toilet seat around his neck and how he had to sit at an odd angle for hours until his back hurt! Nice guy.
