Ficlet Challenge: April 2022
purplecleric
The phrase prompt this month is ... BLOOD BROTHERS

I fell down a rabbit-hole made of Fibonacci sequences last month and discovered a form of poetry called a 'Fib' which is a six line, 20 syllable poem with a syllable count by line of 1/1/2/3/5/8. The syllables in each line correspond with each number in the Fibonacci sequence. Here is an example:

One
Small,
Precise,
Poetic,
Spiraling mixture:
Math plus poetry yields the Fib.

( Pincus, Gregory K.)

For the second challenge: get Fibbing!

Bringing end to rebellion.

Is soon dead:

Law of indifferent nature.

If
You
Choose to
Test others
Then you should expect
Eventually to be wrong.

Well here goes...I'm useless at the other prompt. so I thought I's stick with something I can do...My take on the first part of this month's prompt with a lovely piccie by Lurena

Blood Brothers

Maryatt stared down at the battle scarred man lying on the blood soaked gurney.
“Space Commander, you really need to be…”
“Come on man, you can patch me up. I have a small matter of an unfinished battle.”
“Sir, you need extensive surgery. Your face…your hand. You must allow me to evacuate…”
“NO!”
The patient was most insistent.
“Do what you can,” the man continued softly, “I will not hold you accountable for your actions or their outcome.”
“Very well, sir. But I will still need blood plasma…”
“Get it! On my personal authority. There must be some in the blood banks.”
“There is sir. As you know all citizens are required to donate a quantity of their blood for such an emergency and we can easily replicate that sample should we require more…”
“Do it!”

Hours later, Space Commander Travis looked at himself in the mirror. A quarter of his face had been blasted away, but Maryatt had managed to hide the worst of the injuries by the clever use of a black patch placed over Travis’ eye socket. It even allowed him some modicum of vision, at least until he returned to Earth for more extensive surgery.
“You couldn’t save my hand or my arm, Maryatt?”
“No sir, unfortunately not. But I do know of a surgeon who specializes in artificial limbs. I’m sure that he could rebuild your arm.”
“Could he now? Perhaps I could persuade him to adapt such a limb? Maybe even improve its function.”
“I’m sure he could sir.”
“Maryatt; you have saved my life in the heat of battle and I will not forget that.”
“Thank you.”
“Maybe I should thank the loyal citizen who provided the blood plasma. Do you know his name?”
Maryatt quickly scanned the notes that came with the blood supply; one picked at random from the extensive supplies held by the Medical Department.
“I know that he was an Alpha grade…”
“At least that was something.”
“Indeed sir.”
“I’m sure that he would be proud to know that he has served the Federation well and been instrumental in saving my life. You could even say we are now blood brothers!”
“Here it is sir…Kerr Avon.”
Space Commander Travis looked skywards with his one good eye, “One day, Maryatt, I may try and find him.”

Can't have a less than Alpha blood donor!
And of course Avon will be proud once he knows.

The Last Drop of my Blood

“Kalmy!”

Blake hadn’t recognised his old friend at first. They had nearly walked past each other when he finally noticed the familiar features.

Kalmy, on the other hand, didn’t recognise Blake. He walked straight on and would have vanished in the depth of the corridor had Blake not grabbed his shoulders.

“Kalmy! It’s me – Roj Blake!”

The man just stared at him. No, he actually stared through him as if Blake wasn’t even there.

“Don’t you remember me? Granted, it’s been a long time. We were still kids. Playing cowboys and indians. You were always Winnetou, I was Old Shatterhand. Does that ring a bell?”

No, it didn’t. Kalmy shoook off Blake’s hand and was about to continue on his way.

“We were blood brothers, remember? We even tried to perform the ritual as we’d read it in the books. Rubbing wounds together to mix our blood. You couldn’t stomach it and went sick. No?”

Kalmy’s face hardened. “Leave me alone, citizen”, he growled. “I must not be hindered in fulfilling my duties.”

For the first time Blake realised the strange appearance of his old friend: the black uniform, the strange bell pepper hat, the pale complexion. He backed away.

“What have they done to you?” he rasped.

Kalmy didn’t answer. Instead, he turned around, now that he was free of the obstructing hand, and marched away.

“What have they done to you?” Blake shouted. But Kalmy was already gone.

Blake swallowed hard. He remembered all the rumours about mutoid modification. Kalmy was no longer his blood brother. Every single drop of Blake’s blood in his veins had been removed.

Roj stared along the corridor. He had heard about resistance groups but never understood why people felt compelled to plot against the Federation. After all, he had a good job and was a well respected citizen.

But now he suddenly had the urge to join them.
