Do you think that Avon was already a fan favourite by then, and that this was Terry Nation's response to it?

Not sure. I liked him the minute he challenged Zen (hence my quote), but this ep did it for me. He is very gentle in this ep and barely raises his voice – OK, he just walloped someone – but he's milder in response to Meegat. Maybe it WAS Terry gauging the moment.

I think this is where Avon takes over from Blake, whether intentionally or not.

Blake and Avon having another one of their little love-ins near the end. So beautifully written.

It certainly marks a new stage in their relationship.

Great episode, and great company. OK, I can face Saturday now.
Gloriously sunny and WARM in the UK at last. Hope you all have a great day - and week. See you next time.

I see it more as nervous joshing for position.

Certainly, the conversation before the team goes planet-side and the one near the end present that possibility.

Oh, it is. But it's done with a certain measure of affection as well as competition that comes off very well. The lines each time are memorable. I always find myself laughing the way they banter.

A rather sad ending - poor Meegat, waiting alone on that planet. And how do the brood units survive without adults to take care of them?

Tyce
See you all next week guys.

Glad you got something out of it. I like the texture of the different subplots – Servie/Travis, onboard Libby, on Cephalon. Lots going on.

Not sure, but she does say she is not alone and that there are others of her group on the planet. She's just the one who tends the candles as it were.

I hadn't seen it for ages, and just remembered the comedy of Avon and Meegat, and Jenna getting captured by the sub-Hommiks - so I was expecting a much simpler episode, mostly set on Cephlon. I had quite forgotten the Ensor plot, and Servalan's scheming and manipulation. As you say, the texture of the different subplots makes it much richer.

Ye, you're right - I had forgotten that. And she does have her memories of the Lord Avon to sustain her.
