Jan Chappell in 'The Imagined Testimony of Hildegard of Bingen' - 9th July 2016

B7 Cast and Crew
Jan Chappell in Vision: The Imagined Testimony of Hildegard of Bingen - 9th July 2016

Jan Chappell plays Hildegard, the German Benedictine abbess, writer, composer, Christian mystic and visionary in this musical performance by The Telling at the Stoke Newington Early Music Festival.

'Vision' is an imagined testimony as Hildegard lies on her deathbed, revisiting and re-experiencing meaningful episodes from her past. It explores questions such as: what did it feel like to be taken away from her family at the age of 8? How did she experience the visions which she referred to as “the Living Light”? What was the physical experience of her visions? What did it feel to have so much responsibility in an age when women were generally powerless and silent?

Blurring the boundaries of drama/concert, this event explores the extraordinary life of Hildegard of Bingen, alongside her haunting and distinctive chant, with candlelight.

The performance takes place on Saturday 9th July 2016, 7.30pm at The Old Church, Clissold Park, London N16 0JR.
