Blake's 7 Cosplay
stoke_rob
After recently attempting my first convention Cosplay for Doctor Who which proved a great success (Tom Baker burgundy Season 18 outfit for Who geeks!) and with another costume ready for Manchester at the end of May (again Tom Baker, City Of Death outfit) I thought it was about time I had a crack at a Blake's 7 costume for future Cosplay adventures. B7 is a harder nut to crack because the online Cosplay companies (Cosplay Sky and Hello Cosplay being two I have used) do not feature any B7 costumes as part of their repertoire. So after sourcing a Liberator Gun (250) and a Teleport Bracelet (45) I am now awaiting a tunic and shirt based on Blake's original costume seen from "The Way Back" through to "Time Squad" and have commissioned this from Cosplay Sky. It remains to be seen how accurate it is, and I'll report back when I have received it. As the series went on, the costumes got more outlandish and therefore more difficult to replicate. From what I can tell Avon is by far the most popular person for Cosplayers to have a crack at.

I wonder if anyone else has got advice or recommended suppliers for B7 costuming items? It is a niche market for sure, not like Doctor Who or Star Trek, but there are some out there flying the flag as I have seen photos on the internet.

Well, if you come to RTGP in October you may be allowed to try some of the actual costumes on! It's even possible that Gary may bring them to Smallspace in July....that's where PC and I assisted a certain chap when he tried on some of Avon's costumes.
Cold.....you don't know the meaning of cold.
Cold is when you have ice on the INSIDE of the window!!!

I've always improvised when it came to my (limited) Cosplay experiences (usually Avon or Vila). I don't have any silver, so I made do with a white top and covered it in reflective material. For the Liberator guns, I used a PlayStation Move motion controller (with the PS Eye camera plugged into a USB power supply in my pocket so the orb on the controller can light up). Bracelet? The Blue Peter method.

Couldn't resist ordering one of these from a talented seamstress. Not sure when I'll get to wear it but I am searching around for someone to go to the next Return To Gauda Prime event. Think I will have to end my Cosplay excesses for a while. I am informed by my partner that food and the mortgage have to come first. Unsurprisingly NOT a B7 fan!

That's a fab costume! And you really should come to RTGP - if you can't find somebody to go with you, just come anyway - you'll be among friends straight away.

Yes I remembered B7 fandom as being very friendly, more friendly than the DW events I have attended if I am honest. I very much hope to be there. No booking details available yet on the RTGP site but the info. is bound to come sooner or later.

You could always join us on a location visit - such a garment would come in handy as we tromp through the countryside trying to locate the exact bush Vila hid in 35 years ago!!

And BTW - most of us fly solo to these get-togethers and if transport is a problem, we can often work things out Smile

Only if the pub has opened yet!

Oooh, looks like I'm psychic again - have managed to post a reply to Brad before he made the statement.

Now about this week's lottery numbers...

And if you're early, and no one is there, check the Cherry Tree pub down the street.
It's that, or Purple Cleric will be leading us on a scenic tour of historic Steventon.

stoke_rob, love your cosplay costume! If you haven't already, check out the home page, left side where it has Articles and click on that and it will bring you to Fan Activity, and there are reports and photos from Return to Guada Prime 1 and 2. There is a good photo of the genuine costume display of B7 Gary's there. Believe me, the display has to be seen to be believed. Dozens of original costumes worn by our heroes and often Gary will let you inspect and even try on the costumes. He's very good about that and how good he is by letting all the fans see costumes they've only dreamed of. So check it out and please come in October. We'd love to meet you. -Paula (BradPaula) and Brad (JustBrad)

I did quite literally fly solo. I live in the US and timed my vacation to be able to join the fun at RTGP2. Didn't know a soul, but had a wonderful day with fellow fans and am already planning my trip for October.

And Hugbot came all the way from from Germany and was greeted, in German, by our very own Mat Irvine.
You could also come along to Smallspace in Hanslope on Sunday 12th July...we normally meet up there as well.

Hey Paula and Brad, I have got Zen monitoring all frequencies for teleport co-ordinates for Gauda Prime and if the Liberator isn't attacked by Space Rats then it is looking likely I will teleport in when I am in stationary orbit above Steventon. Think I may have found a Mutoid to accompany me!!!

Lovely to hear that, Rob. If you wonder why we keep going on and on about this fabled con, well, the last two have been so much fun, we can't seem to talk about anything else! Really looking forward to our 3rd RTGP and 5th trip to the UK. Not long now!

My bespoke tunic arrived this morning. I am hoping to unveil it at Manchester Comic Con next weekend so that B7 has a presence among all the Star Wars and Doctor Who stuff!
