Good morning, see you all at 10am Happy
Reversing the polarity of the neutron flow. I bet that means something. It sounds great.

Looking forward to this!!

The first run, with the original crew, created a good but regular format; the first few stories from the Rescue onwards really started to push the boundaries in new directions.

One of the scenes that supports the theory that the interior dimensions are affected by the exterior portal; in other stories it's not the case, so maybe it's all about whether the Doctor remembers to turn a stabiliser on or off?

The first time on screen that the travellers are seen to have visited somewhere without walking into a crisis, at least not straight away.

Doing a lighter story, to point of making an actual dark comedy, must have been a really brave decision! Now it's a regular part of the format.

If you're looking for a novelisation that sticks to the canon TV episodes, forget it, less than half of it is in there.

However, if you're looking at a different take on the same story, with plenty of humour, then it works marvellously.

I really enjoyed Donald Cotton's novelisations; "The Myth Makers" (his own script this time) is another good one.

I never bother about the books sticking to canon; the ones that do are often far less interesting! Grin

Dennis Spooner was script editor from The Rescue to The Chase inclusive, and he seems to be the man who took William Russell and Jacqueline Hill's work up to that point and allowed them more freedom to play them as an item. The implication that it's gone a lot further than flirting by this point is very strong from this story onwards.

The Doctor Who equivalent of "Horizon" Wink Well, except that the TARDIS crew actually get a rest.

The drunk Ian and Babs seem a little post-coital here, although of course no suggestion could be made of this in 1965 Grin

Maybe not in terms of direct innuendo in the script, but it's clearly written to allow the cast to interpret the scene that way if they wanted to; which they obviously did!
