Original Liberator prop/model for sale?
clanger68
Space Blasters, Warrington was held in 1994 I believe Travisina, a damn good exhibition it was too.

Must dig out some of the photos I took.

With reference to the ebay auction, I believe that the Liberator featured has one, maybe two, tips of the Nacelles from the original filming miniature, everything else, in my opinion, has been reconstructed.

It is a lovely model though, I have seen it many, many times, from when it was exhibited by Martin at Arne, Warrington and Who's 7 events and subsequently at many model shows with it's current/previous owner.

Being a lovely model, made by an ex BBC employee does not make it screen used though!

In my opinion the 3 foot, screen used filming model (as seen at the end of Terminal) is safely in Mat Irvine's possession.

Andy, what you said.

I am also of the opinion that the "Bower Liberator" is mostly replica with a few original parts, but what Mat has is mostly the original model (except where he's added bits to complete the "look" for display purposes).

Again, the "Bower Liberator" is a great item, I would be glad to own it, but not under the premise that it's "the one and only".

If I pulled a couple of sponsor stickers off Lewis Hamilton's F1 car and stuck them on my old Focus Estate, it would still be an old Focus Estate, not an F1 car.

Exterminator, in your opinion, how much is this kind of model worth, even if it is only 1-10% original?

Oh, please do! We've still got the panel that was used with our costume display (with a pic of the two us looking young and slim, sigh) but I don't know where our other photos are.

That's a much smaller model. Nice, though.

The alleged 'prop' is 3ft long, floor standing on a pole.

Blimey, price for the "This Is A Fake" Liberator now up to 4100 Shock

I know Martin Bower has built several replicas of the smaller size Liberator for people over the years.

As for the "Liberfaker", that's about the upper limit I'd expect to pay for a professionally built replica.

Same for me, in fact I think the 'seller/previous seller' is offering copies of the studio scale Liberator right now for 4,500 (an interesting thing to do whilst trying to convince others of the auctions authenticity).

Although in the grand scheme of things it is 'worth' what ever people are prepared to pay for it.

My problem with this situation is people will be prepared to pay a premium if they think it is a genuine screen used item.

The lengths the seller/s have gone to on the various internet forums, and real live exhibition/conventions to convince people this Liberator is genuine (regardless of whether you believe it is or isn't) range from vague to downright deceitful.

Or is the seller artificially bumping up the price himself (she said cynically).
It's. Not. Worth. 7k.
Not in anyone's universe.

You could buy approx. 260 bottles of Talisker for that ...

Anniew
260 bottles of Talisker or my very own Liberator. Gosh Hugbot you sure know how to pose the hard choices!

Or you could build a Liberator out of empty Talisker bottles...

Ooh now that's an idea Travisina. One problem. I'm struggling to afford one bottle at the moment!

It's 9,000 now!

Or the price of a small car.
Or part of a deposit towards buying a home.

Seriously, guys?

And it's just been pointed out to me that the seller states that Martin Bower was the original designer. I think Roger Murray-Leach may have something to say about that...

CAVEAT EMPTOR!

Much as I hate to say it, but I think the seller is doing this, or at least getting a friend to do it.
It is now 9000...if only we could alert Ebay to a possible fraud. But I don't know enough about this model to do that.
As it is, some very poor fan is going to get conned, methinks.

It would have to be a very rich fan Wink

I've never used Ebay, so I don't know about their procedure for alerting to possible fraud. Does anyone know? The description is partly false advertising (Martin Bower was not the original designer), nor was it ever used in the studio in its current form.

The other worrying thing is the seller saying that one of pods is bent out of alignment and he's using a bungy cord to straighten it. There was nothing wrong with any of the pods when we had temporary possession of the model, and hubby thinks that the seller may have caused the misalignment himself (dropped it, perhaps?). Hubby was quite cross about that.

So, to sum up:

It's not an original prop
It's a damaged model
The seller now wants 9k for it.
