Aw, skororu, I may be late, but I have a request:
Please could you try somthing I always envisage for the "undefined areas"?
In my imagination there would be a special area much related to what we got to see in the System's Space World control room.
There would be emergency doors, leading to the pilot crew's escape pod area. ( the one our heroes could not use due to damage) and those standing cylindrical thingies, purpose unknown(I like to think they are universal time clocks and atmosphere regultaors). See screenshots below.

More seating does have its problems - piled high with flightcases, a camera and a BBC tea trolley might give it some authenticity though.

I'll see what design details I can work in from those episodes. I had seen those those hexagonal lighting clusters and was thinking of trying to fit them in somewhere.

This style of alcove design seemed the best fit of a few I tried...

I really like that - it's what I had in my head when I wrote that story!

That's good to hear - were there any details you felt that could be added/changed?

Another option here (I'll maintain multiple options in the 3D file). Just starting to bring in some design details from that episode - including the metal strip floor - changing some of the detailing and palette to match the existing flight deck design. The door design could be brought in too, while reducing the size of the alcove - to follow.

Still playing around with the flight deck ceiling and System's Space World control room bits.

I know I'm repeating myself, but that's just brilliant, skororu.

I'm amazed every time I look at your work.

You're welcome - it's been a good learning experience. I wrote some Open Source software which shares out the workload of rendering these images, and I found and fixed a few flaws in it while producing these renders, so it's all worked out rather well :-)

@Lurena I'm still looking for a way to make that door work with the other design elements. I think the alcove would need to go (in its current form), and be replaced with something much shallower, and the door would need to be presented in its open position so we could see through it to the area behind.

I think I have a ceiling design that fits reasonably well with the existing design elements (it reuses the profile from the fins used extensively around the flightdeck):

And here's the view from the SL corridor using it:

So nice to see convincing views from angles NEVER seen in episodes!

Please keep them coming... and any links to walkthrough-able models would also be nice!

Keep it up Smile

The 3D model used to create the renders is here: http://skororu.de...-361227196 and the (free and Open Source) 3D software needed to view/edit it is here: https://www.blend....

Once you've opened the model, tap z to change to solid shading, then left-click and drag the mouse briefly to drop you out of camera view. Pressing Shift-f now allows you to fly through the model, controlled using the mouse and arrow keys.

This is so clever. The detail I still like best is the ceiling.

Do you know something? For the first time ever, while looking at this artwork, it struck me that Blake’s 7 must be the only SF show to have a lounge suite taking up a very large proportion of the spaceship's flight deck. In 40 years, this is the first time I have ever realised how truly bizarre this is. Obviously, at a practical level it provides an acting space, (in Star Trek, conversations between crewmembers typically seem to happen in corridors or the lift), but I now can’t get rid of a mental picture of those System ladies sitting on the sofa watching telly on the vis-screen.

I'd be hard pushed to choose a favourite detail, but I love the ceiling too.

Great set design for filming a television show, terrible layout for a warship.

Maybe it was for diplomatic purposes, though I don't see why the System would want that. Get people comfortable before enslaving them?
