Skip our heroes visit to the Sense Sphere?! It's one of my favourite Hartnell serials, so much 'early television fantasy' style and atmosphere with a decent mystery thrown in too. The aliens themselves may leave much to be desired, but on the plus side we have a number of really committed performances from the regulars and a couple of the guest stars. Not previously posted on the new site, this is the artwork I commissioned back in 2012 from Andrew Skilleter entitled The Sensorites: Behind the Scenes; it depicts William Russell, Jacqueline Hill and guest star Ilona Rodgers discussing the production in the early evening shortly after arriving on set...

Andrew spent a long time carefully recreating the spaceship set from the episodes and contemporary photographs.
Reversing the polarity of the neutron flow. I bet that means something. It sounds great.

A nice bit of character development at the beginning, on how things have changed since Ian and Barbara came on board!!

And the first instance of the Doctor name dropping (which would reach its heights in the Tom Baker era).... Henry VIII!!!

People from the 28th century.... I think it's the first time we've met people from Earth's future.

I love the spaceship set here, it reminds me of how I visualise Journey Into Space (the classic radio series)

I remember this episode not being too bad at all. a Nice set up. Most of these Hartnell stories had nice set up even if they turned a bit rubbish

The travellers want to go back to the TARDIS, but the lock is stolen, thus forcing them into the adventure. Very typical of this era.

I'm useless! I forgot completely! I'm here now if that's any consolation - and wound forward to 11 minutes in.

Fabulous sketch!!

Being able to remove the lock, but still not being able to open the door, was a neat way of trapping the travellers in the story; the writers used to come up with many and varied ways of keeping the characters in the narrative.

That's true. I even like The Web Planet episode 1.

It's going to be interesting watching this again. It's the first story in which the 'monsters' turn out to be sympathetic.

Spaceship Dispatcher
This is cleverly written, because you don't know what the real threat is! Is it the aliens, the man following Barbara and Susan, or is it... something else?
