33 and a third anniversary Derek rewatch - Rescue
trevor travis
The episode: Derek rewatch - Rescue
The date: Tuesday, January 6th, 2014
The time: 7.45pm UK time

In which Avon visits the Terminal hairdresser and gets a brand new perm, Cally goes out with a bang, a certain female gunslinger makes her first appearance, the crew stumble across another ship with potential teleport facilities, Dorian keeps a pet Sea Devil in his cellar, and Vila saves the day.

All are welcome to join in this rewatch, as Chris Boucher not only resolves the Now-Get-Out-Of-That cliffhanger of Terminal, but also rips off a Oscar Wilde film* into the bargain.

* OK, Oscar Wilde book, but more people have seen the film then read the book. Plus Boucher was a film buff, and almost certainly got the tale from there.

Film?!! He wrote it as a novel, I think you'll find. Grin
Reversing the polarity of the neutron flow. I bet that means something. It sounds great.

The thing I remember most about this episode is when they showed a clip of the final scene on Points of View and Barry Took was clearly having trouble keeping a straight face! Not B7's finest hour it has to be said.

Well, yeah, but the 1945 film is a classic Wink

Have you listened to the Big Finish dramatisation?

No, no need, I have the 1945 film on a video cassette.

Have never seen the film, but I looked it up and see it has Angela Lansbury in it.

The BF drama is definately not one of their better productions, not one I would recommend if you have a better adaptation on the shelf already. The cast was okay, but the broad narrative didn't gel together too well on audio imo.

Big Finish have got three series out of it - not just the events of the book. They've expanded the tale into several different stories. Why, I've no idea.

We stole a script from Oscar Wilde,
And had a dancing Sea Devil defiled.
Vila nicks a Fed Rifle, Avon thinks it no trifle,
as he halts the Gestalt and then smiles.

Superb! Encore, as Orac would say.

A reminder that this rewatch takes place tonight. Wrap up warm, because it's currently chilly on Terminal.

Have to offer my apologies for this evening, I'm working late so will only be able to look in from time to time.

I'm glad I could make it this time - completely missed the Rescue protest rewatch last year. And I have to confess that I am one of the rare guys who really like this ep!
