Well do you guys think Adnan did it?I think I tip more towards innocent, or at the very least, enough doubt to not convict.

Jay really creeps me out, his attention to detail is amazing. I always felt like he wasn't telling the full story, or making things up.

I'm not optimistic that this group who looks into cases will find anything to get Adnan acquitted, but the lady that said she saw him in the library, has recently done another affidavit saying that Adnan was with her at the time of the murder.

I'm not sure about Adnan's innocence, but I agree, there's reasonable doubt...

Jay seems to be a bit of a fantasist, exaggerating things to make himself seem more important than he is, possibly over-compensating for a low self-esteem.

What this series really highlighted for me was how everyone manipulates situations to meet their needs - from the cops to the lawyers, even Adnan considering a plea.

And it reinforces my stance against the death penalty - state-sanctioned murder has always felt like a case of 'don't do as I do, do as I say...' to me but to see how the jury would have to make that decision when presented with information that is the mere tip of the iceberg, and a sculpted one at that, is very scary.

The whole series has been a fascinating rummage around human nature (the woods and the 'flasher' who found the body were a real eye-opener). I liked the way that Koenig was honest about the way her feelings swung and never got preachy (although I have to confess I was starting to find her voice irritating towards the end.)

The presentation was innovative - using actual recording of conversations, testimony, and interviews really brought the people to life, and demonstrated how difficult the truth can be to discover. The maps etc on the web site just added a whole extra layer.

I missed the original broadcasts/podcasts, so listened to it over the Xmas break while being very careful to avoid spoilery reviews.

I was gripped throughout - listened to two or three eps at a time, because each ended on such an intriguing teaser or cliff hanger. I thought the whole thing was extremely well produced - I didn't get tired of Koenig's voice, which I found rather pleasing. I also liked the way each ep started with the phone call announcement, and the plinky-plonk incidental music. It was a classy production, made all the better for the fact that despite the way it played out like a drama, this was a documentary and the people are real.

As for whodunnit...
Dunno.

There's certainly enough reasonable doubt that if I were presented with all the new evidence/interviews I wouldn't find Adnan guilty. Jay is an unreliable witness, but what bothers me most was the incompetence of Adnan's defence attorney. That alone should get the case reopened. I was slightly disappointed that there wasn't a more decisive ending to the series - that Koenig's investigations led to the case being reconsidered at least - but real life is never as neat as NCIS/CSI/L&O/ etc.

(Slightly off topic, in a Lee Child short story I read recently, the detective was grumbling that in CSI the whole case is wrapped up in 50 minutes, while IRL it takes that long just to cordon off the crime scene and put on your overalls!)

I agree about the death penalty - thank goodness this took place in one of the States that doesn't have it, else Adnan would be on death row rather than in jail. And it's never a deterrent anyway - there's a famous painting (can't remember who it's by) of a public hanging and in the watching crowd a thief is picking someone's pocket.

Anyone else heard the first episode? My last post may have made me seem callous, but in my defense whilst I knew this season would be completely different..... The subject matter does not interest me at all.

A murder mystery will always fascinate me... this though? I don't care why he went AWOL or the circumstances and that's a shame, because I was so excited for this and then.....

Let me know if this gets better and I'll return to it.

I listened, and I liked it. I'm interested in the subject - okay, so it's not a murder mystery, but it's an intriguing 'whydunnit'.
