Christmas rewatch - Blake
BradPaula
Always helps to watch Blake's Bloops immediately after the ending of Blake....

And then there was one... and then the salvo of gun fire.

33 years ago, I'm not sure if I cried, but I remember walking around school like a zombie the next day. Xmas 1981? Ruined!!!!

Amazingly didn't need the tissue, although it was a close run thing!

So many normal TV standards are junked here. Not clearing of the dead bodies, there's dead Blake, next to dead Soolin... next to dead Dayna.

B7 used many existing sci fi tropes and sterotypes, but it was also groundbreaking from beginning to end.

Grandson insisted on watching this episode after we had seen several of the others..I didn't tell him what happened.
He was 9 at the time.
He just sat there, stunned, until he asked, very quietly, "Are they all dead?"
I just nodded.

What? MUSIC during the credits? Why not silent credits!?

The jangling music really jarred - by the silence may well have been crippling...

S&S have been interfering - I'm posting before the question has been asked...

"They were all dead. The final gunshot was an exclamation mark to everything that had led up to this point." - Max Payne

There ends the episode... and the series.

What a downer ending. Excuse me - I need to go find whoever came up with the idea (not who wrote the script and story) and send them back to the Fires of Hell. Smile

Yup, things like the end of "Blake" didn't happen in 1981. These days, it's more common, but it was unheard of then. It's what caused such a furore.

I'm fairly sure I didn't get to watch the end first time round and I had no idea what was coming around 4 years ago. My mum and dad ditched it when series four started... and I was only allowed to watch what they wanted... I still bawled my eyes out though as did the rest of us...

By the time the final episode aired in Chicago, we had been spoiled to the ending from our membership in Horizon. Even knowing it was coming, it was still a jaw dropping shock, rahter like The Red Wedding.

Well, 33 years ago I just sat there...waiting for an annoucement that never came.
My 2 very young daughters were oblivious to what had just happened and they were really excited the next day as Xmas and Santa were another day closer.
I just felt sooo empty...
Then a few days later, I got a pen and pad and started writing.
I found it very theraputic...

Maybe. Perhaps him living with the knowledge that his story killed Christmas for many a B7 fan is enough. Smile After all, he did christen himself "The Man Who Killed Father Christmas" according to the "Cult of Blake's 7" BBC documentary. Smile

In all seriousness, though... spectacular story from a writer who knows and understands B7 probably more so than Terry Nation himself. Good rewatch, and Merry Christmas, if that's even possible now. Smile
