Rewatch OZ - Edge of Destruction
Gauda Cheese
I think its the next story where the bond between the four is fully formed. Sadly Marco Polo doesn't exist anymore, but the soundtrack is sublime perfect Doctor Who.

There is a very simple but neat resolution to the story.

Doesn't count in this context imo, due to the exceptional circumstances.

Another great rewatch, thanks for your company!

re. viewing figures

The massive viewing figures for City of Death were boosted by ITV being on strike and there being only BBC to watch...

Reversing the polarity of the neutron flow. I bet that means something. It sounds great.

The bigger story here, than the resolution of the plot, is the Doctor having to come down from his high horse.

"The power is under this column"

A reference that RTD picked up for "Boom Town" and "Parting Of The Ways", as he recreated DW for a mass audience.

Well.... more people watched it in the 60's Oops

More people watched TV full-stop in the sixties.

But DW only became the most-watched programme in the country with "Journey's End", the first time DW was No 1.

Ummmmmm City of Death

Not even in the Top 30 for that week.

And this comes from a massive "City Of Death" fan.

Indeed.

It was fantastic so many people watched City Of Death, but the actual chart position wasn't spectacular.

Chart positions are a much better guide. They show a very successful period in early Season 2 (a quick slump after the Web Planet though.... sorry SD, but there is!!), very solid good positions in Seasons 13 & 14, but easily the best sequence comes in Season 30... with a run of top five places culminating in a coveted No 1 spot at last.

Whatever people think of the RTD era, he made DW mainstream in a way it hadn't been quite before. Take this from a fan of DW in the UK for many years, who suddenly saw the change.

And it's great he did while making references back to stories like the Edge Of Destruction (in Boom Town).

Keys is OK in places, shall we do all the stories from Season 1 (obviously we have to skip Marco Polo because some ****** wiped it), and then be selective from Season 2?

I'm not going to vote on this because often I'm out on Sundays, I have been here for the last couple of stories due to sickness and staying in watching dvds!

Not sure if I can make it every single, especially with the run-up to Christmas.
