Rewatch OZ - Edge of Destruction

The Doctor is more of an anti-hero that ever.

This is like a stage play - unfortunately, attempts to actually put Dr Who on stage always seem to be spectacular and ambitious and full of monsters; missing the true strengths of the format imo.

Reversing the polarity of the neutron flow. I bet that means something. It sounds great.

Nice idea... the TARDIS is trying to them tell something telepathically.... but mistrust between the Doctor and the schoolteachers is causing that to go wrong

The acting in this is great. Even Ford to a degree. They are all busting their butts on camera.

It was nice how some elements of The Doctor's Wife were a homage to this story...

The ship is on the point of disintregration.

Nice how he whole threat is done verbally.

Drama created on a very tight budget.

Agreed. Actually Charles and Barrie always thought Marooned would make a great play. You don't need bells and whistles when the story is good. Be it a comedy or a nice bit of drama like this.

It was very stagey in the opening episode, but I think that's because the TARDIS was influencing their behaviour.

I prefer it when that ends and we have the four of them back in usual mode - it's now cracking stuff.

And 42 wasn't the first real-time story.

It's this one.... ten minutes to survive... we just need countdown clock in the corner Grin

"The power is under this column"

A reference that RTD picked up for "Boom Town" and "Parting Of The Ways", as he recreated DW for a mass audience.

Hartnell is great here in this monologue

Indeed! Those who knew him well say the 'fluffs' were intentional character building, that the Doctor is absent minded, and present this episode and Dalek Invasion of Earth part 6 as evidence for the defence.

More people watched TV full-stop in the sixties.

But DW only became the most-watched programme in the country with "Journey's End", the first time DW was No 1.
