B7 Fan Event - Sunday 13th April

PC, thanks for the offer of local insight. If there's a consensus to extend the festivities, I would very much like to be involved, funds willing...

Although Steventon is a village, we are blessed with 3 pubs and a reasonable curry house - so I'm sure we'll manage...

I'd be up for that. Are we talking the night before here, as won't peeps have to get back on the Sunday eve for work etc??

That's a LOT of drinking for a one day event. Grin

So is the time schedule:

11am-4pm: The event
4pm-3am: The pub

And lyrics to Distant Star are all printed out for the evening. Someone needs to explain to me how they fit into the jangly Season D end credits, though. Grin

I'm sure something can be sorted for Saturday...

Local accommodation:

[mail]http://www.cherrytreesteventon.co.uk/home.php[/mail]
[mail]http://thefoxatsteventon.co.uk/[/mail]
[mail]http://www.ascarihouse.co.uk/[/mail]

These are all within 5mins walk of the venue.

There is also a Premier Inn a mile away - with it's own restaurant:
[mail]http://www.premierinn.com/en/hotel/DIDAPP/oxford-south-didcot[/mail]

The food there is more competitively priced and it's a larger space...

For those visitors from overseas (and anyone who loves really traditional pubs) a visit here is recommended (no food, no accommodation, no BAR!) but a real blast from the past...
[mail]http://www.heritagepubs.org.uk/pubs/national-inventory-entry.asp?PubID=128[/mail]

For anyone making a weekend of it, there are various local attractions to visit on Saturday - just let me know and I'll fill you in with some details...

Thanks PC! Which of these accommodations do you recommend? Love the sound of the curry!

Well, a Premier Inn is a Premier Inn - nuff said.

The rooms in the Cherry Tree are right by the smoker's garden so can be a bit noisy for anyone turning in early (probably doesn't apply!)

As I've never actually stayed in any of the rooms, I can't comment on their facilities so I'm afraid I'm a bit lame in the recommendations dept - as for the drinking environment - that's a whole 'nother story....

Thanks for the welcome, littlesue. To make sure I don't chicken out, I've booked in for the night of the 12th, even though I'm only an hour or so away.

So I hope there'll be company or I'll feel like such a sad-sack...Grin

pc is only just up the road and I'm sure there will be others around. I'm leaving Locks Heath at about 8am so should be there about 10. Just look out for a white Hyundi 10 with someone wearing a nice Avon T-shirt in the passenger seat!!
Cold.....you don't know the meaning of cold.
Cold is when you have ice on the INSIDE of the window!!!

Just a point to note folks...it will be access for exhibitors only before 11am Smile However there are a couple of pubs just up the road you can retreat to beforehand!

I'm not sure the pubs will be open at 10am - but a good mug of tea and bacon butties can be purchased across the road....

Sounds like a plan. Thanks purplecleric and Clare and everyone else for all the help. It certainly helps us in planning our holiday and what to do in picturesque Steventon. -Paula

If it makes you feel better, this is my first B7 con, so you won't be the only newcomer. Are you sure you aren't just reflecting my case of nerves?Smile

To all our new members thinking of coming to the April fan event: Please don't worry yourself. You will be meeting fellow fans in the Blake's 7 family. You will be accepted. Believe me, when we first walked into the Return to Gauda Prime con, it was like old home week. Sure, we hadn't met 95% of the people there but we knew of them via the Forum. Once we got a chance to go up and introduce ourselves to the people we had only previously know by their screen names and avatars, it was like talking to old friends.

We are excited and looking forward to meeting all our new members in April. And remember if you do have any questions, be they about the meet up or how to get to Steventon, please don't hesitate to post and ask or PM one of us. We have Spaceship Dispatcher who can help with matters of traveling by train, and we have purplecleric, who can help with more local matters as she lives close by. And remember too, we have a few members who would be willing to pick people up from the train station or local hotels. All you need to do is ask.

I think you'll love what you find when you get there- we've met some of our dearest friends at these fan events. So see you all soon and all the best! -Paula

Yep, that'll be it! Just look out for the quivering jelly in the corner, it'll be meOops

As I'll be a temporary resident that morning, anyone looking for a lift from the station on the day is welcome to give me a shout, although I warn you my car is a skip so you won't make the grandest of entrances. Grin

If you go to the Smallspace thread, you'll find photos of some of us...so you will know what to expect! (And who to look out for!)

Please be aware that you may see two slightly mature ladies running around shouting 'Open Channel D!' on the actual day!!Grin
