Says something about the public profile of Blake's 7, as perceived by the media, that a journalist here expects your average Daily Mail reader to know the reference. Can't be bad.
Reversing the polarity of the neutron flow. I bet that means something. It sounds great.

The Daily Mail is the lowest of the gutter press in any case.... truly horrible newspaper that seems to hate everybody and everything. The tabloid version of the Federation.

If the Daily Mail doesn't like B7, I'd take it as a huge compliment Grin

I agree. I wonder if the reviewer has ever actually seen B7, or is using the reference as cultural stereotype? Either way, I don't think it hurts to have a mention in the media - even a derogatory one!

Typical Daily Mail...

it's frustrating that B7 is always remembered for the wrong reasons: low budget and cheap effects rather than excellent characterisation, witty, clever dialogue or for decent, original storylines.

But at least it's remembered...?

It's strange that the article talks about B7 in a different way to the headline. The article basically says "this looks cheap, like B7" but the headline suggests it's cheaper - "B7 on a budget".

Much more interesting is this article on the BFI website which mentions that Dennis Potter (Singing Detective, Cold Lazarus, Pennies from Heaven, Nigel Barton etc) declared B7 "mildly diverting" in his TV review column from the Sunday Times (February 1978).

I wouldn't give much credit to anything written in the Daily Fail- poorly researched hack journalism of the worst possible kind. As for B7 having cheap effects, I honestly don't notice them most of the time, as the script and characterisation gives me enough suspension of disbelief to be able to watch the series time and time again. In fact, it stands up very well compared to a lot of the expensive CGI-era Dr Who stuff nowadays.

By and large I think the FX are fine. I think some people have a problem with suspension of disbelief, which is their problem not ours.

hehe, the Mail journo admits to only being able to stay conscious for nine minutes.... not the best qualification for a film reviewer!!

the film does sound rubbish though, let's be honest
