Sad news - Rik was excellent as DI Gideon Pryke in Jonathan Creek
Reversing the polarity of the neutron flow. I bet that means something. It sounds great.

Another sad loss

RIP, Richie. Sad
Very sad news, I'm really rather upset about it.

Apart from loving his performances in The Young Ones and Blackadder and Bottom and Jonathan Creek etc, I've actually worked with him. In the early '90s, I was sound editor on two Granada dramas starring Rik Mayall - Dirty Old Town and Clare de Lune. Some night scenes for Clare were shot in a side street near my flat, and hubby and I braved the freezing Manchester air to watch the filming. Wonderful - if chilly! - experience.

Stunned by this news.

Rest in Peace
I've just seen this sad news on the BBC too...I know him best for his performances in Blackadder...however he was also a contributor to the Epilepsy Action charity. My mum also supports this charity as she also has the condition. Rik developed it after that nasty accident with a quad bike.

Thoughts are with family and friends at this very sad time.
The foolish reject what they see;
the wise reject what they think.
I am stunned. I loved Rik Mayall and especially his Lord Flashheart and Robin Hood characters in the various Blackadders. What a horrible loss.

Rest in Peace, Rik- from a heart-broken fan. -Paula

I still can't believe this news. Saw it on the TV just after 6pm.....only 56....I'm 60 this year and dearest was 64 this month.
He was far too young, I feel for his family.
Cold.....you don't know the meaning of cold.
Cold is when you have ice on the INSIDE of the window!!!

I wasn't shocked, I heard his health was poorish ever since an ATV accident in the 90's,
but I'm very saddened. I think I'm going to do a Pathfinder Adventuring group in his honor-with Ric as a Wizard wanna be Bard (But has really low charisma), neil as a druid, Vyvyan as a Barbarian and Mike as a Rogue.
Rik, I still can't believe it. You were a great actor. One of the most energetic I know of and you will be missed always.

Hoping your in comedy heaven doing what you love.

RIP Rik.
Missed all news 'til now so this thread header came as a helluva shock. So much life force spent so soon.

RIP Rik.

This bummed me out. I discovered Rik as a kid watching Drop Dead Fred and I didn't see him again until I had Aussie cable in the mid to late 90's. It was a show called the New Statesman and I loved it.

Through that i discovered the Young Ones (and in the Young Ones I discovered my fave band ever Motorhead), Cat Flap, and one of my fave things in the world.... Bottom. My first Bottom was their second stage show. I rented it at my local video store, watched it a million times that week then found the series.
Guest House Paradiso remains one of my fave comedy movies.

Tonight I'm and drinking some wine and putting on my Bottom DVD's. I'll watch some random episodes, catch a live show and maybe.... just maybe I'll see a film.

Rik Mayall is dead. What a bastard Oops
