Gary and I made our annual pilgrimage to Oldbury Power Station today. We took a walk through the nature trail around the outside of the Station.![]() The sun was shining and the birds were singing. We saw little blue butterflies and there was a lovely perfume from the wild flowers. ![]() ![]() ![]()

Wonder if the Green Door is still there?
Well now, all you had to do was ask. |

Back in 1995 ,a small group of us known as the dead soma society , met lorna for the very first time , who use to work at the power station, we where very lucky to get inside the power station , we walked over the pile caps , which is marked out in squares , which are lifted off for the refuelling manchines A/B to move over ,these where massive machines ,weighing each over 900 tonnes, we also got to see the green doors , i actually pushed closed one of these, which where very solid and heavy , we where not allowed inside the doors ,but what the heck i touched one , we also climbed out onto the turbine hall roof ,which was where the wooden door was located ,for blake and crew to climb down the metal ladder onto the turbine roof gantry, we where also allowed round the turbine hall, we had to wear ear plugs it was very noisey. the power station no longer allows people into some of these areas , due to hightened security , i consider my self lucky to get this wonderfull oppertunity ,and to thank lorna price , who has become wonderfull friend to us. |

Great photos Lorna, thanks for sharing. Sounds like a great idea, renting a cottage in Yorkshire and visiting B7 locations, you Gary and the rest must have had a ball. What is Howstean (sp?) Gorge like? I have always fancied a trip to Chenga! Must get my holiday on Mecron snaps up at some time, there are none of Belkov in a bathing suit..... thankfully! Cheers, andy I'm going to live forever...or die trying! |

I had the pleasure of visiting said cottage along with several others (of our local meeting group the Terra Nostra) one year, over 15 years ago! My goodness has it really been that long??!! Howsteen Gorge looks exactly the same when I was last there. Interesting geology and fluvial processes... I guess Vila's escape capsule must been washed away over the years.. ![]() Thruscross Reservoir is also quite impressive (used for the running scene on Auron!) and is worth a visit. We did a Who style photo story, which I'll put up at some point. Think we went to Hebden Moor too which was used in the episode Volcano.. Behold your God, Neil!! ![]() |

That part of Yorkshire is definitely worth a visit - the locations are very picturesque, so you don't feel too sad using your holiday to go and see them! We're off to Wales on holiday this summer and thought we'd try and fit in Clearwell Caves on the way back, I think they were used in Horizon. Has anyone else been there and got any information? |

Gary, Hazel and I went to Clearwell Caves a few years ago, also to nearby Bream Scowles (The Keeper). I will post some photos when I can; I am going out in a minute. ![]() |

I'd love to know how easy access was to Bream Scowles, and if you could recognise the actual locations used. |

Great photos, Lorna. I was always fascinated by Howsteen Gorge and how beautiful and and untique it is. More, please. Now, can anyone answer me this? What is that building that doubled for the Hi-Tech's (lack of a better word) base, or hospital? I have always wondered. -Paula Sum Non Expendere, Sum Non Plumbeus, Sum Non Progressus |

I fondly remember a wonderful Horizon 3-centre weekend back in 1999 in which an intrepid bunch of us hired a mini-bus and travelled from London to Swansea to see two out of the final three performances of 'Guards! Guards!' starring Paul Darrow as Captain Vimes, a round trip from Swansea to Cardiff for the Saturday matinee of 'The Hosts of Rebecca' in which one of the main cast was Gareth Thomas (then back to Swansea that same evening for the final performance of 'Guards!' ) The next day we drove back to London via Oldbury Power Station where we met up with Lorna, Gary, Hazel and others for a fascinating tour. Apart from our core mini-bus group, we met up with different groups of fans at each different location - a really wonderful weekend. We had a detailed write-up about this weekend on the old site, with some great photos. I must put it back up here for you all to see. Glad to see you're still visiting there Lorna/Gary. - Diane |

Gary and I joined Hazel and her Geology Group on a trip to a working quarry. It was really interesting, despite not being a B7 quarry. After lunch we went to Clearwell Caves. That was great fun, even for non-B7 people! We took lots of photos, but of course it is very difficult to show details of a cave, at least with my camera! Anyway here are Hazel and Gary larking around in the caves.![]() ![]() Then we decided to find Bream Scowles. Following the map the approximate location was easy to find, after we had been up and down the road a couple of times. Well. Angry Angel, did we find the actual spot? We walked up a footpath, and decided they wouldn't have taken the equipment too far off the road, so we decided on a spot to photograph! ![]() And that was the best we could do.

Yes, I well remember that Horizon weekend Supreme Comander. We didn't go to Swansea, but we did see Gareth in Cardiff, and of course we were all there on the Sunday to go round the Power Station. Was that 1999? Dosnt time fly? They no longer allow public visits, However, as I had worked with the current Station Manager in the 80s, I thought it was worth a letter. And we did get one last tour a few years ago! However, access was much more restrictd and we had to wear safety boots, helmets and goggles. So now we take our annual trip round the Station in the Nature Trail.

I think the Bream Scowles photo looks about right. I love the Forest of Dean area and have visited Clearwell caves - but a long time ago. And have passed Clearwell Castle many times (which from memory is where the cast stayed whilst filming - and presumably were asked to take their boots off). Some of the scowles are the remains of Roman open cast iron mining - funny to think the Romans might have helped create a Blakes 7 set! Reading about your trip in 1999 makes me very envious. I seem to have picked up on Blakes 7 again a bit too late. ![]() |
