UK Rewatch - C12 Death-Watch
trevor travis
The episode: Colin Twelve – Death-Watch (Carry On Watching Blake’s 7)
The date: Tuesday, September 21st, 2021
The time: 7.45pm UK time

In which Chris Boucher gets to write his Western and does a rather magnificent job with it; Vila wants to go on holiday, but he’s daft enough to suggest the outskirts of the derelict Wembley Exhibition site, rather the lakeside at Gardinos; Avon and Servie have another snog; Avon remembers Dayna has a feud with Servie, because the script editor is writing the episode and he knows these things; Avon remembers Cally is telepathic, because the script editor is writing the episode and he knows these things; there's a cheeky reference to Star Trek being fiction within the B7 universe; and there’s TWO Tarrants in this episode – work out what you could do with two of him (steady!). Yes, it’s time to dig out your green post-it notes and stick them on your forehead, as we re-watch another brilliant episode.

Episode in a word: Duel.
Character to cheer: Avon is on fine form here, coming up with a clever plan to foil Servie’s schemes, and saving double the planets that Blake did in 26 episodes simply to get one up on Servie! This is perhaps the last episode of B7 to have a happy ending… well, if you ignore that (SPOILERS) Tarrant’s brother has just kicked the bucket!
Character to boo: Vinni is not only an android, but highly annoying too. Deeta should have shot him in the back when he had the chance.
Is Soolin looking lovely this week: Yes.
Recognisable Face: Steven Bevan (Max) was Professor Jones in the Doctor Who serial “The Green Death”. The jammy git won the heart of Katy Manning’s Jo Grant.
Best line: “Are you sure you can't redesign him as something useful, like a drinks dispenser? Or an empty space. I think he'd look really good as an empty space.”

Blake's 7 will return in… Carry On Through The Particle Cloud

And talking of Carry On Through The Particle Cloud, there’s something I should have spotted sooner. We will be re-watching each episode of Season Derek on the date of its exact 40th anniversary, starting next Tuesday (September 28th) with Carry On Space Sea Devil (Rescue). Therefore, we need to fit in Terminal before that. Please click on one of the voting options – most votes wins. Vote closes by the start of the Death-Watch rewatch, so that we can start up the thread and inform everyone in good time.

As for Derek, we’ll carry on starting at 7.45pm, BUT for Blake on December 21st, I propose bringing that forward to 7.20-8.10pm, so the ending of that episode is exactly at the same time that it was in 1981 and we can have a big group hug. We will also be reintroducing the Season Derek drinking game!

Dear Mum,

For once, Tarrant and Avon agreed to one of my suggestions. For once, I rather wish they hadn’t. You know how we always talked about the Teal / Vandor convention? How we always wished we could attend one day?

Well, I did. And it wasn’t as much fun as advertised, maybe because Tarrnt’s brother was one of the combatants.

Being a Tarrant, he fought like a noble idiot. And you know what happens to noble idiots in a fight, especially when Servalan is one of the referees. It’s a real shame, especially because it turns out all this time we had the wrong Tarrant.

The festivities weren’t much fun either. I got bored and went back to Liberator while Avon visited a sick friend.

Remember how I said Tarrant’s brother was a noble idiot. He had the drop on the other guy, but when the other guy issued a challenge to meet face to face, Tarrant’s brother agreed, rather than shoot him in the back.

I wish Del Grant were the champion. Grant would have said ‘No,’ and then shot him in the back.

Avon would have shot him in the back, and then said, ‘No.’

So, after Tarrant’s brother died, our Tarrant took up the challenge. And he won. How very convenient that the arbiters changed the rules to allow him to take his own gun, instead of issuing him a weapon as they had in every other combat ever…

And I get a night off for a change, as Avon wants to stand watch and wants the flight deck to himself. What could possibly go wrong with Avon on watch.

Love, Vila.

I know. That's what I haven't set up next week's re-listen, in case we put it on hold for a week, depending on what people vote for. As usual, it's the vote that decides.

I vote Monday, we can reschedule the relisten easily.

Yes, I think that's perhaps the best option and it will be nice to watch Terminal and Rescue on successive days. But I won't vote, unless it's a tie.

oh well, if you are rescheduling your listen-off, Monday would be excellent for the reason specified. Should I vote again? Or will you just minus 1 off Wednesday and add it onto the Monday vote? Grin

Now voted, since it was tied at 2-2. And with OSP doing the same as Vila in Children Of Auron and joining the winning side, that makes it 4-1. Wink
