Hi Mrs B, Obsidian and M...Virn - hope everyone's well?

Fine here. Had a vaccination appointment, but now there's a shortage so it's been pushed back.

Sorry to hear that. All this and the Olympics, too!
My views are my own.

VILA: I'm entitled to my opinion.
AVON: It is your assumption that we are entitled to it as well that is irritating.

At least Cally smirks at Avon after the deed is done. She can't be THAT annoyed with his decision to blow Travis's craft out of the sky.

She has no love for Travis - from the time he tortured her in Seek-Locate-Destroy.

One assumes so. How Blake, Jenna and Vila survive it in the end, I don't know.

I think perhaps it takes weeks/months/years of exposure to really become lethal.

They seem to show no ill-effects later in the ep.

I'd love to read a fic about Goth, explaining how it came about. Anyone know one?

This scene (exterior fight with the Goths, Vila off to the side etc) is very very clunky - it's one of my main irks. I can tell that the editor did what was possible, but that there just wasn't enough film coverage of the scene to make it work smoothly. I'm tempted to blame the director, but we don't know what challenges they were facing on location that day. Maybe a batch of rushes were unusable? Sometimes a whole roll could end up scratched or over/under-exposed or spoiled during processing (a whole day's filming of Prime Suspect was lost when the lab processing the film broke down...)

That sounds helpful. Yes, it's clunky and too short and almost as if the area tin which they were filming was physically restricted, but I don't mind it because of the various manoeuverings going on between the characters.

Lovely furs Servalan is wearing this week.

Aha! Servalan's here - now we'll see some sense. Although she's having a lot of trouble controlling that fur. Makes me wonder what (if anything) she's having to wear underneath it.
You're not sulking, I hope?

OK, so it's a useful episode to get us tothe next one, but it's hardly one of the best. Too much fancy scenery and fake fighting for me.
All well here, although someone knocked down part of our boundary wall (there was red paint on some of the stones) so we had to spend the afternoon rebuilding it. (Dry-stone walling). Met more people walkinig past than I have in a year. The tourists are definitely back.

I love the grey dry-stone-walls of the Lake District. It's such a beautiful part of the world - even in the rain.

Question - who WAS on the ship Avon destroyed?

Mutoids?

I do love it! IRL they raided the BBC props / costume dept for anything they could find, but in the context of the ep it sets up such interesting speculation as to the origin of the Goths.

Can't think of any, but a few Kipchak Turks must have bumped into some Ru's coming down from the Baltic area where they'd bumped into some Scandinavians trading amber, then bumped into some early Polynesians before they set sail for the Pacific... then launched their own spacecraft.
