Did he? I didn't notice, lol. Is that a first? That's a useful ability that he's developed! Smile

By the way, I (finally) got a new car this weekend, and his name is Zen Smile Also, since I heard the Big Finish audio 'Chosen', Zen is very firmly a 'he' to me. Though Orac is still an 'it' in my eyes.

Congrats on the new car. Hope you will be happy with him.

I consider mechanical things to be "he" The exception is the mass spec I use at work. She was already named Minnie.

There were some really great one-liners in that, and I love how all the cast perform everything, but it wasn't one of my favourite stories. It didn't have much excitement for me (despite Avon being destined to be encase in wax and sent to another planet), maybe because I know Dayna won't be found this early in the series.
Avon: "Not enough! Not nearly enough! Dammit, what weighs seventy kilos?"
Orac: "Vila weighs seventy-three kilos, Avon."
Avon: "Vila, are you here? I need your help."

Thanks for the company. Goodnight Smile

LOL, Minnie the mass spectrometer. I don't think any of our analysis instruments have names, yet Wink I'm going to need to think of a lot of names! I've only had one female car, and she was called 'The Grape' (as she was purple with squishy seats).

Goodnight Paula and Ellen. See you again soon!

Things have been somewhat hectic recently, so I'm behind with the re-listens. However, I've now caught up with Fortuitas, so will add my comments.
My views are my own.

VILA: I'm entitled to my opinion.
AVON: It is your assumption that we are entitled to it as well that is irritating.

Going to dip out of this tonight. Still feeling a bit rough after my vaccine. Will catch up later in the week. Hope everyone else has fun.

Aw, hope you're okay now, TT.
The day after my jab, I spent most of the day asleep. But apart from that and a hurty arm that lasted nearly a week, I didn't suffer any ill effects.

Hi all - just swinging by to say hello, and sorry to miss this. I'll catch up later (hopefully) - bit of a family crisis at the moment...

Oh, dear. Take care!

Hi Travisina. Hope you get the family crisis sorted!

Thanks, everyone. It's kind of sorted - details available via PM.

I really love how Orac choreographs Grant's fight for his life in such great detail, and so enthusiastically, haha.

It's a bit of an odd scene - I'm sure Grant doesn't need assistance from Orac when it comes to fisticuffs!

I usually name things, especially cars. And they're always male. So far, I've had Max the Renault, Fritz the Volkswagen, Sprite the Saab and now Post-It the Nissan Note (Post-It Note, geddit?)

And finally - about the episode. It had been a long time since I'd listened to Fortuitas, and I couldn't remember much about it, apart from Orac telling Grant how to fight.

So it was almost like hearing it again for the first time. I was interested and intrigued by the unfolding mystery, and there were lots of witty lines. But the Orac/Grant double act was so silly, it rather spoiled things for me, so my main impression of the ep is that it was a bit meh overall.

I agree. On one level its a clever idea. The writer has clearly thought about what could be done in an audio-only medium, and it provides a way to describe something very visual. On the other hand, the real problem with fights in audio-only is that you can't really tell who is doing what or who is winning. You just get grunts and groans, impacts and eventually someone saying something that reveals who bested who. We don't get a running commentary from Orac, so the problem isn't solved in this case. Further, it would slow Grant down to listen to what Orac says and then act on those instructions. There's just no time for that in a fight. Plus the enemy would hear what you are about to do and be able to counter it. Finally, as Travisina says, Grant wouldn't need advice anyway.

Indeed. His cousin, Duggan, taught him how to throw a mean right cross.
