It has been announced that David Prowse has passed away at the age of 85. While his main claim to fame was as a body builder and weight lifter, his notable sci fi achievements include: The actor who physically played Darth Vader (but did not voice him). He trained Christopher Reeve for the title role in the 1979 Superman film, helping the skinny actor 'muscle up.' He played a bodyguard in HHGTTG. He played Frankenstein's monster in Several Hammer Films. He was the Minotaur in Doctor Who The Time Monster. He was the Android in The Tomorrow People And guest appearances on Gulliver's Travels, Space 1999, Arthur of the Britons, and The Benny Hill Show, to name but a few.  MODthra |

RIP David Prowse. As he played Darth Vader behind a mask, he will always be remembered by a whole generation of children (myself included) as the Green Cross Code man. Apparently it was also the role he was most proud of. |

RIP, Dave Prowse. I was lucky to meet him at a convention -he was really friendly and good to his fans. During a panel, he was asked how much he'd made from Star Wars. He replied by singing to the SW theme tune: "Star Wars Made me a fortune Paid off my mortgage Bought me a car!" Another icon lost this year... :-( Twitter: @TravisinaB7
