Reading Pratchett: Hogfather - 17th December
Travisina
Terry Pratchett - Hogfather

Date: Thursday 17th December
Time: 7.45pm

Join us to discuss Discworld's seasonally appropriate novel, in which DEATH has to take on the role of the Hogfather - Discworld's answer to Santa!
My views are my own.

AVON: It is your assumption that we are entitled to it as well that is irritating.

Are we here?

I'm here first, it seems. Hogfather. What an inspired story. And terrifying. In equal parts.
There, that's me done as far as the book goes. What's next?
You're not sulking, I hope?

Bother. Not first after all. Hi Stormy.
You're not sulking, I hope?

You were logged on before me. You can be first if you like.

Let's call it a tie. How are you today?

Iíve been a bit tied up (not literally) so Iíve only really flicked through the book. I saw it on the telly though. Does that count?

M1795537 OC Virn
Probably. I was reluctant to reread it at all, because it's quite disturbing: more so than his others, I feel. Anyway, what was the tv one like?
Spent the day trying to clear all my junk off the spare bed because my daughter's coming to stay (extended household/support bubble).
You're not sulking, I hope?

I think the TV version might have been a bit lighter. David Jason. Thatís all I remember.
Iíve been knitting.

Hello!

Travisina
Sorry I'm late! Had a family zoom that didn't finish until 7.30, then I had to make supper AND finish the last chapter of the book. I did both simultaneously, so here I am with supper to hand, and finished book. Smug mode.

At least youíve read it!

M..Virn, thanks for the link to the TV version, which I've not yet watched, but will now that I've finished reading. It's almost impossible to translate Pratchett to screen, because so much is puns, wordplay, foot notes etc. But I'll be interested to see how well (or not) they've done.

SP was about to tell me all about the tv version. Did you see it, too?

The 8 candles are assembled, but not yet lit - waiting for hubby to get up (his sleep pattern is all over the place) - so that we can light together. He's not Jewish, but still joins in.
