I found some of his last books a bit formulaic..establish a few storylines running alongside each other, build it all up to a big fight/whatever and then everything sorts itelf out.

This one felt a bit like that, but I havenít read enough to compare. Mind you, the same could be said for a few authors. Sharpe, anyone?

Lee Child, definitely. His early Jack Reachers are gripping to the point of keeping me up at night and forgetting to eat. More recently they feel formulaic, predictable and (dare I say it?) dull. Last I heard he'd actually handed over the reins to his brother to keep the franchise going.

Sad and probably predictable I suppose when people get stuck with having to re-hash the same things.

But woe betide the author who tries to kill off their character - whether Sherlock Holmes or whatsisname in 'Misery'.

Youíre all right, Iím trying to type while answering questions about spoons!

Ask me a question about spoons, I'm intrigued!

Well, itís the wooden spoon round...

What's that?

The one picked by who came last last week. Finally someone picked spoons...

Private Eye usually has an article about spoons. They do spoof interviews with celebs about their favourite spoons. Try it sometime...

We seem to have strayed a bit from 'Thief of Time'. What's the overall verdict?

I liked it very much, but found it a bit too densely packed. Can't decide whether it was more or less the sum of its parts, and it had a LOT of parts!

So, to summarise, because it's 9pm and my husband is finally home (much later than he'd said) we're saying Pratchett isn't at his best here because he's trying too hard? But that he has valid reasons for it. Probably. And that the book is still fun if you have the patience and concentration to get to the end?

Who is winning the quiz anyway?

Good summary, M.
Which reminds me - I loved Qu, the riff on James Bond Q with dialogue shamelessly lifted from any of the movies!
