The Carpet People (at an age where my friend and I drove my mother insane shouting “Hello” into the carpet at intervals for some time afterwards, just in case we had Carpet People in the house) and The Wee Free Men. Oh, and a graphic novel of Mort. 4? |

It may not have the depth of subsequent books, but by heck I need some laughs at the moment, and this certainly is providing them. It is brilliantly written. You can never describe TP as a bad writer but this isn't a rib tickler for me. "We're in the centre of a mystical convergence here."

I’ve worked in places like that... |

That is what I meant. My use of personal pronouns was unclear then. "We're in the centre of a mystical convergence here."

They're clever and funny. Djelibeybi is great, as is Ptraci. However, in some of his earlier books, I get the feeling that TP's trying too hard to be funny. I think 'Pyramids' is borderline - mostly it feels naturally funny, but I could be doing with fewer cameladric equations. ===========================

I'm particularly enjoying Pyramids, because I managed to get to see the Tutenkahmen exhibition with Clareblues, a few days before everything shut down. It's such a glorious riff on Ancient Egypt - everything in the King Tut expo is in this book, turned up to 11 and turned round 90 degrees.

I haven’t read it, but I know my mum had a kitten as a child and her father claimed it would think its name was ‘Mindmenylons’. |
