Hi Iain.
I'm the Sue Little who sent your dear Mum Xmas cards. Your Mum's songs are on one of my sites as I have the two tapes plus an extra one that she sent me.
My abiding memory of your Mum is going to Edgecon (I think) and asking if our hotel room was ready.
"And what names is it under?"
With as straight faces as we could muster, we both replied "Little and Short".
And here's a picture of me with your Mum. I'm in the middle.

Iain - I am a relative newbie on Horizon, so I know nothing of your mum. I am a fan of folk music though and your mum had a clear talent. Consider my mind blown away. Thanks, from a 1st timer of hearing, those songs are wonderful.

Just catching up with all the latest Advent entries - what a wonderful collection of goodies!

Iain - Thank you for linking to your Mum's filks. I haven't heard them for years... decades, probably. And thanks also for sharing your childhood memories, they were lovely to read.

Moon Disk - love the festive Liberator Smile

Joe Dredd - Great Xmas cards, and your 'spot the difference' is genius!

TT - I laughed my socks off at your story... which explains the chilblains on my toes Grin

Annie - such wonderful, evocative poems. Lovely.

Iain, they're great.

Iain, those are really fantastic! Thank you so much for sharing!

I am thoroughly enjoying all these entries, this is actually better than a normal Advent Calendar... and they have chocolate in them!!

Iain, thank you. Great contribution to the calendar!
Zil: Oneness must resist the Host.

Ian ... those songs ... that memory. Wonderful

Stormy. There really is no end to your talents. Adorable picture ( I LOVE Vila on tipped toes) and a really funny concept.
Just because I can't sing doesn't mean I won't.

Iain: loved the songs, as another newcomer to the forum I had not heard them before: really evocative.

Stormy: adorable drawing of little Avon & Vila!

I am enjoying all the entries, only wish I could draw or paint!

GanMiniMe
Great cartoon! Great to see “Avon’s Teddy” also making a cameo appearance...

Loved the cartoon, Stormy. I got a good laugh out of it! Watch for my cartoon on Friday...

JD - brilliant Christmas cards, very B7... although I wonder what my friends over here would say if I sent them one of those ... Pfft

Moon Disk - another brilliant Christmas card. Looks very fascinating ... like a still from an episode that should have been made!

Iain - thank you so much for this post! I've heard of those filks before but the only recording I had known so far was of rather poor audio quality. Now I can finally hear the songs in all their glory and appreciate you mother's great talent! And nice to hear some 'backstage' stories ... what a great treat!

Stormy - GrinGrinGrin Brilliant cartoon - brightened my day! Awww, it even includes Roj Bear!

Well now - what can I say? I've seen the advent calendar threads in previous years. I almost didn't sign up for a date on here thinking that amongst all the lovely puzzles, stories and art produced by some extremely talented people, that nobody would be very interested in some long forgotten Filk Songs and a couple of my childhood memories.

There are times it is so lovely to be proven wrong. Thank you everyone.

Sue Little - Mummy spoke of you often. If I remember right from so long ago, you and I met at Edgecon '82 - when I was 8 years old and completely overwhelmed by the experience. Did you have the transfer off the first issue of B7 magazine on one of the back pockets of your jeans? If so, I was very jealous - Mummy wouldn't let me copy you when we got home! When Dad finally gave me Mummy's copies of B7 magazines, that transfer was missing. So still jealous!

I think we once came to your house too when I was little (no pun intended). We were on holiday, had been to see HMS Victory, so it must have been near Portsmouth. I didn't want to go because I had to change into a proper shirt with buttons on. But I cheered up because you had the episode 'Star One' on video. In the days when we weren't legally allowed to have the videos. You had another B7 friend there too, I think she was called Sylvia. It turned out to be a very nice day.

Thank you for posting that photo. Mummy looks so young. Huge massive thanks for posting your links to the songs. I've always been worried that one day they'd disappear off YouTube - as things do.

Also thanks again to everyone for the wonderful comments about the songs, especially those that had never heard them before I have a few more 'anecdotes', but maybe I'll save them for this times next year.

What a wonderful welcome. Hugs. - Iain Short xx.

Yes Iain, I did have that transfer on the back of my jeans and I think you may well have gone to meet us at Sylvie's house in Cosham (or was it Waterlooville). I was living in Southampton at the time, so maybe it was my house that you came to.'
As you have the master tapes of those songs, maybe you could transfer them to a CD or two, with the original artwork on the sleeve. I'm sure that some of us fans would like copies. All I have are the cassette tapes and I'm just wary to play them now. (It was daughter no. 2 who recorded them onto the Computer for me with a very old cassette player!!!)

Lovely to know I was right about the transfer at Edgecon 82 Sue. I don't have the mastertapes, or any access to them. Dad locked them away many years ago. But at least they still exist. It took be several years to convince him to give me the rest of the B7 mags and 'zines Mummy had collected.

It's a shame that your Dad is keeping the tapes locked away. There are so many people suddenly discovering B7 in the last few months and they are desperate to know what we all got up to back in the day. (And as you can no doubt confirm, we were all very sober at those conventions...Grin) and some are hearing those songs for the first time.
The tape your Mum sent me had a song called The Day we Went To Edgecon. I must hunt it out and see if there is someone who could upload it to the computer.
I have a picture of your Mum, from a magazine, in full swing with her guitar. I must find it and upload it.

LittleSue - that song title is bringing back a dim and distant memory! Does it go something like

"oh me lads, you should have seen us gather. Watching all the videos - Sarcophagus and Shadow. Some folks there were all dressed up with guns and bracelets too. somethingsomethingsomethingsomething Edgecon 82"

Must be at least 30 years since I heard it.
