‘They have a sentimental value for me.’ Avon - Shadow

We all know how this interaction plays out, leading to one of Avon’s infamous quotes.

The word prompt this month is … MONEY

Whether it’s credits, gemstones, gold or various local currencies, even in the 23rd century it still doesn’t buy happiness or love.

The first day of May in England is traditionally celebrated with flowers, dancing and song. May Queens are crowned, Maypoles danced around and ancient hymns are sung by choristers from college towers. For others, May brings Labour Day or Women’s Day or Mother’s Day. I wonder if any of these will survive into the future?

Joe Dredd
Then to borrow a phrase, "Here's one I made earlier".

Unfinished and never before allowed loose, and you can see why.

Money

Joe Dredd, great idea, I enjoyed the vid!
Avon and money - there need to be more vids about that.

And here's another Avon/money vid which I absolutely love, set for Money, Money, Money by ABBA. Smile

Those were really funny. I bet Kerr Avon would be in the Misfits were he in a band. Now ABBA will be playing in my head all day.

I enjoyed both videos thoroughly.
Just because I can't sing doesn't mean I won't.

Many thanks for the videos, I've enjoyed them both!

The person who made the ABBA video also made this one. I laughed so hard at it:

Money ficlet by M1795537, OC Virn

“No,” the woman pronounced, from the depths of her armchair, “And…. no.”
The aide tried again.
“I remember this,“ she said. His hopes rose, “But…. I think not. Haven’t you anything else, Dak?”
He desperately needed clues but knew better than to ask.
“Perhaps…?” he suggested. The woman scrutinised the image.
“Oh no,” she objected, her irritated glance transferring from the screen to him. The man paled.
“Er…. would you consider another session?” he suggested, dreading the reply. The girl who made the originals hadn’t been seen since.
The woman sighed. This whole exercise was taking too long. Dak had seemed capable but his results were….dreary? Tame?
“Lacklustre,” she concluded, pleased. An old word, but a good one, “It needs more sparkle, more…. “
“Ma’am, it is beyond the capacity of any device to capture your personality,” he gushed.
“True, “ she agreed, “But it is also beyond my tolerance to brook being interrupted,” she signalled to the guards, “Remove him.”
“Wait – “ he cried, “Please, just one more?”
He’d remembered her current fad for historicity. This image was of a Greek temple, with her as the goddess. The woman paused thoughtfully.
“Have the prototype ready tomorrow,” she ordered, ” You are dismissed.”

“Ridiculous!” Councilman Devi shook his head. “She spends too much time in those history files she keeps quoting.”
“A dangerous opinion to state aloud, sir,” his assistant warned.
“Dangerous to have an honest opinion now, eh? “Devi shook his head, “Hundreds of years she’s setting us back, Gomez, and for what? Governments eradicated this before the Federation existed! Dragging up old ideas. What’s the good of it?“
“A throwback to a simpler time, the newscasts say,” Gomez was used to Devi’s tantrums. “And it creates new capacities for employment.”
“New headaches for me, “ Devi grumbled, “The Council won’t agree.”
Gomez wisely ignored this. The Council debate was probably superfluous since the Senate had already approved. Devi adjusted his robes and sighed. Robes. Another of the President’s anachronisms.
“How do I look?”
“Good, sir,” Gomez lied encouragingly, “I hope it goes well.” This was true enough: both their positions depended on it. The Councilman grunted and went in. Gomez headed back to collect his things, just in case he needed to leave hurriedly.

”Sparkle, Ma’am,” Dak announced, handing her the prototype, “I hope this …”
“Oh, yes, “she snatched it up. The transparent disc glinted, impregnated with microflakes that caught the light. Within it, her holographic image glowed. Dak sighed with relief.
“And the name, Ma’am?”
She turned. As always, her presence both excited and intimidated. Her full-length gown was worn to devastating effect, the sort of thing seen at a ball, not his dusty workshop.
“My Councillors disapprove. They don’t like change.,” she reported, and suddenly laughed. Dak, careful to join in, belatedly saw the joke.
“Start production immediately,” Servalan tossed the glittering coin back, ”First minted at the shrine of Moneta, goddess of money. And now at mine. The name doesn’t matter. Names change. But they will remember me.”

I've had a bit of a hectic weekend, but things are okay now. The only thing that seems to keep me sane is this writing lark..
...so here is my contribution to this month's prompt with a picture, as always, by Lurena, (likewise having a rather hectic month!!!).

Money…or Nothing

Tynus nervously bit his lip.
By now it should be done.
By now that two million credits should be safely in the account so thoughtfully created by his friend, Kerr Avon. Then the Pack would be able to show the Federation that there were ways to upset the status quo.
So why was he worried?
What if the plan had been discovered?
What if the Federation knew about the young, rebellious group and its plans?
If that was the case then this ship would have been impounded and its occupants questioned.
But no, it was still traversing through space.
He checked his watch.
Should he risk a cursory look to see if the money was there?
Or was it too soon?
He recalled how confident he had felt about the plan to defraud the Federation banking system of a few million credits, how the Pack had welcomed the offer from Tynus’ friend, Avon. An outsider, not affiliated to them, but happy to help liberate those credits; although Tynus had a feeling that Avon’s interests were not political, but more akin to testing and improving the skills of which he was, rightly or wrongly, extremely proud.
Tynus was sure it would work.
So why was he running scared.
He had the suspicion that Avon was only doing this fraud as a dry run. But for what?
He had once heard Avon say that wealth was the only reality and that if he could, he’d take so much money that no-one could touch him.
But he hadn’t reckoned with Avon falling for Anna.
Although Tynus hadn’t met her, he had warned Avon about her, but Avon was so smitten he just couldn’t see that there was any inherent danger…
Tynus looked at his watch again.
“We will be docking soon sir.” It was the flight attendant.
Tynus jumped.
“It's just that you keep checking your watch. Not long now sir.”
She smiled; Tynus smiled back.
He looked down at the drawing pad on his lap.
It was a picture of Earth seen through the viewing port as the ship had left orbit.
Tynus felt inclined to erase it…
But what if Avon had been found out? Would he keep his mouth shut just as he had promised? After all Tynus, too, had had a part to play in this fraud.
But if it did go wrong?
Would the Federation come after him and the Pack?
That’s why he had decided to run; get away before all hell broke loose.
“We’ve arrived sir.” It was the Flight Attendant again, “Your connection is waiting for you.”
“Oh. Right. Thank you.”
Tynus felt flustered. He got to his feet and began to walk towards the exit and freedom…
“Oh sir, your drawing pad…”
Tynus took it, then gently removed the picture of Earth.
“Here, for you. And thank you.”
“But sir, it’s a lovely picture….”
“I know, but I don’t need it. You keep it.”
Tynus kept walking.
Down the exit ramp and towards his onward connection.
He didn’t hurry; why draw attention to himself?
Soon he would be free.
Free of the Federation.
Free of Avon.
It was just a matter of the money…..
…and money was everything.

Sue and Lurena - lovely vignette and a lovely picture of young Tynus!
Yes I too thought he was scared about what they did with Avon and so ran and hid as far from Earth and he could.

I wondered about how Tynus could have fitted in to that fraud, but that explains it nicely, Sue and Lurena!
Love the picture, too.
