The episode: Derek Eleven - Orbit * (Carry On Dieting) The date: Tuesday, December 4th, 2018 The time: 7.45pm UK time Starring Paul Darrow, Michael Keating, Steven Pacey, Josette Simon, Glynis Barber, Peter Tuddenham and Peter Tuddenham as Avon's 7, plus the late, great Jacqueline Pearce as Servie and Old Star Killer. In which Avon intends to blow up entire planets using one of those old TV/Video combos that they had at schools in the 1980s; we also find out Avon is also a keen model builder; Soolin is looking lovely; Orac is a toerag; and Vila really wishes he'd gone on that diet. Egrorian insists we all watch this episode, or he'll come around and break our arms. Prepare to laugh and then cry, in arguably the most disturbing episode - a true Robert Holmes masterpiece. * Other flavours of chewing gum are available. |

Reporting in ahead of night. I think I weigh around 95 kilos, but on the plus side, I might to be too large for Avon to drag out the airlock. |

There once was a thief from Nantucket Who kept his thief kit in a bucket. In Kilos, you see, he weighed Seventy - Three, So he had to be ready to chuck it. |

Henry VIII – Act III, Scene ii Those two moments perfectly capture S4 Avon for me. He's under tremendous strain, he needs help, but he pushes everyone away and damns himself. They all need help, in fact. But no one is helping anyone by this point. They'll start in Warlord though - Avon too will react to "Orbit" in going back to rebellion and also in allowing Soolin to ditch him to save herself - without a word, and without knowing if she intends to to save him. And this ending was the most awful thing which happened in the show for me. Yes, including the finale because there at least no one betrayed anyone, it were just honest mistakes all around. ![]() ![]() Other things I noticed on this rewatch: - It flows from "Gold" perfectly. Avon continued his insane laughter right into "Orbit". He never smiled or laughed so much in any other episode in the entire show, and it was awful. And him calling after Vila in the shuttle didn't sound sane either. It as if he could only do it by dissociating from his sane self. - Avon hated to see himself mirrored in Egorian, and Egorian calling him "vicious leader" etc. was a wake-up call. Hence "Warlord". - Avon was really scared of "Tachion funnel" and was mostly talking about defence and of preventing this thing to attack their ship. And the he ditched it pretty easily. It's really neat and not obvious but it's there. - I thought at some point what would happen if Avon didn't find either Vila or the cube. Would he jump himself, cursing Vila, after realizing it's either that or they both die and that would be irrational? After this rewatch I don't think that would happen. Avon wasn't rational enough when he was after Vila to think about saving one of two. He would just go down with the shuttle in that state. The cube snapped him out of it, and again, we have "Warlord" with Soolin after that. |

Just getting ready. Tea, choccie, biccies.... When my Grandson saw this, back when he was about 10, he found the 2 guest characters quite funny, in a strange kind of way, but the moment Orac said 'Vila weighs 70 kilos', he suddenly went very quiet..."Is he really going to kill him?" I think it shook him up, just a tad. Cold.....you don't know the meaning of cold. Evening all! ![]() Flens and crisps ... 'extremely hot Habanero crisps', to be precise. There is a burning skull on the package and a label saying, 'Keep away from children!' I got them as a joke gift for Christmas (originally, they wanted to give me that infamous smelly Scandinavian fish but couldn't find it). The guy who fave them to me said that he can eat three or four of the crisps but no more. I haven't dared t try them until today ... |

This one: his life depended on it, and Vila knew him and knew that wasn't his normal behaviour. And it goes with the rest of him giggling and laughing like in "Gold" throughout the episode. |

Oh, it looks as if we are watching a comedy! That's a good thing ... after Avon cracking up last week, we are in need of some light entertainment and relief! |
