Is anyone here watching Dickensian? One friend says it's great, another says it's terrible. Obviously opinions are subjective, but is anyone here watching it and what are your thoughts?

SD I'm not quite so enthusiastic as Little Sue but it is a great production with some cracking acting. I find the stories which explain the pre-history of Miss Haversham and Lady Dedlock from Bleak House more convincing than the Bill Sykes/ Nancy or Scrooge/Cratchet ones ( although they are superbly acted and there's a terrific Fagan). if you know your Dickens it's a bit too soap operay and the story lines don't always convince. But as a half hour entertainment it's pretty fun.

Thanks Annie, you echo some other comments I have heard...
Reversing the polarity of the neutron flow. I bet that means something. It sounds great.

I haven't read any Dickens, but I'm feeling rather inclined to. I must say, I love the character of Detective Bucket...Stephen Rea must be absolutely mad that War and Peace is on at the same time as he is in that as well! (And just as good!)
Cold.....you don't know the meaning of cold.
Cold is when you have ice on the INSIDE of the window!!!

Stephen Rea was great in the commercial/political espionage drama The Honourable Woman last year too.

Old thread, but I loved Dickensian. I'm not very well versed in Dickens (but like littlesue I feel like reading some now), so I didn't know what would happen to a lot of the characters, and I really liked the way the stories flowed together.

I used to watch Once Upon A Time when it was still shown in the UK (up to s3 I think) and I found it great fun. Pretty silly really, but the characters and the drama - lots happens in every episode - were very engaging.
