Marathon Re watch
K9 Block
I'm new here so I hope you don't mind a newbie starting a new thread.

Seeing a book about Blake's 7 on FB has rekindled my interest in all things Blake. I never lost the love but life took over and if you mention B7 to most people they glaze over and look bored so I kept quiet.

But that book made me think and I looked it up... and bought it... and it's arrived. Then I typed B7 into You Tube and found things... Anyway now I am on a marathon re watch. I will finish Season 2... Barney? tonight and then move onto what I remember as my favourite season.

I've just seen Gambit again and yes I still don't like it. Weakest one I've re watched so far.

Avon is still by far my favourite character....

Really looking forward to sharing the adventure and the love with some like minded people Smile

Hi K9 Block. If you are interested, Horizon has all sorts of rewatches for its members. We have the Blake's 7 rewatch Tuesday evenings at 7:45 pm. This week is Gambit- as you stated, the weakest you've watched so far.

We also have other rewatches. You can find them in the General section of the Forum, under Other Rewatches. We do Doctor Who new and classic, Buck Rogers, The Avengers, The New Avengers, Sherlock Holmes, and Robin of Sherwood to name the current rewatches. We also occasionally do a film or two, usually during the Christmas holidays. So check the schedule out and join us. We'd love to have you. -Paula (member of the Horizon Olympic Rewatch Team)

K9 Block, can I ask why you do not like Gambit?

For me it is a great episode, (with some great bloopers and lines)

Yes it looks like something out of Buck Rogers in the 25th Century but for me its very enjoyable.

Some nice exchanges between Avon and Vila too.. Slight nonsense on the science side (but nowhere near as bad as Star One, great episode that is too)

Tagging on - I was going to ask, do you really think 'Gambit' is weaker than 'Voice from the Past'? For me, that's the worst ep in Series Barney.

It's the one episode I cringe at.

It looks silly and even as a child it embarrassed me! Now as an adult it's almost as bad as the Transformer at the end of the Doctor Who Christmas Special, 'The Next Doctor.'

Just ugh!

I forgive it though just as I forgive Doctor Who... because they are Blake's 7 and Doctor Who! Wink

EDIT: Definitely worse than Voice from the Past, but each to their own!

Absolutely! That's one of the great things about B7 fandom - the variety of opinions on the stories and characters Smile
And my favourite character is - and always has been - Vila!

Vila is cute and probably the most likeable in the real world of them all. Despite being a criminal he's an honest one!

For me that would be a recommendation! Buck Rogers is a great show, s1 especially Grin

Indeed I think you'll see nearly endless seeming threads of fans promoting their own views and counter views of the minutiae of Blake's 7.

But we all agree on that B7 is a great and memorable series.

VftP I quite like FWIW.. Despite a few shoddy sequences, I quite like it, as Gambit.. For me Weapon is an episode I don't care for so much. Although on the whole Series B is a pretty strong series following on strongly from the first.

I think I'm in shock after seeing Star One again. I can't remember when I last saw it but I do remember feeling just like this back then as well.

A series of the power of Blake's 7 is rare. Doctor Who has it... most of the time but I still say Blake's 7 had it, ALL of the time.

Without wanting to derail this thread but true, there's no Wilma Deering to be sure, But I like Cally in that white number and I'll never say no to Jenna!

After having recently watched many BRi25C episodes recently I think that show in particular has not aged very well and is nowhere near the calibre of B7. With one of the episodes being a rehash of previous episodes (Blast for Buck) Dreadfully dull, indeed some of the sequences were bad enough first time around.

If one was to find parts Gambit excruciating , I could cite a dozen elements in Buck that are much much worse. Usually actors are pretty proud of their work but Gil Gerrard was allegedly a little dissapointed in how things were done in that show. There are some okay episodes it is true, but on the whole it is a bit of a tainted nostalgia trip for me.

S2 was supposed to be better from GG's pov, but turned out to be a little on a sub-par Trek level. Its a shame that the reimagining of Buck not go ahead with Erin and GIl playing Buck's parents, the little trailer/skit that I saw looked good.

B7 on the other hand seems to have a longevity and though I'm sure B7 sceptics would laugh at episodes like Animals and maybe Gambit. I think episodes like Killer, Aftermath, Powerplay, Rumours and Deathwatch hold up very well.

With these episodes coming up K9 Block you're in for a treat!

Ah yes Aftermath is a firm favourite and my complete favourite is Rumours of Death... Season 3, I LOVE it!

My favourite (as a Vila fan) has to be 'City' - but 'Rumours' is a fantastic ep. The writing, the performances, the engaging minor characters, the locations, the direction... and as a follow-on from 'Countdown', full of backstory and angst, it's the best of the Avon episodes.
