40th Anniversary Rewatch - C11 Moloch
trevor travis
The episode: Colin Eleven - Moloch (Carry On KFC)
The date: Tuesday, September 18th, 2018
The time: 7.45pm UK time

Starring Paul Darrow, Jan Chappell, Michael Keating, Steven Pacey, Josette Simon, Peter Tuddenham and Peter Tuddenham as Avon's 7, plus the late, great Jacqueline Pearce as Servie, Davyd Harries as the loveable Doran, gross Grose and his bunch of rapists, the lovely Sabina Franklyn, and Deep Roy.

In which the Liberator crew visit the planet of the rapists; we also meet the lovable/ghastly Doran (delete as you see the character); Avon eats a forbidden apple; Vila and Servie team up; and the Libby crew get peckish at the end of the episode and order in a bargain bucket of KFC.

Also, we have some ground to recover. There are 52 weeks in a year, and we have 52 episodes to watch in this 40th anniversary year. Quite rightly, we watched Sand as a tribute to Jacqueline Pearce, but this leaves us needing to watch two episodes in a week. It makes sense to catch up sooner rather than later, especially if we get back on track, then we are watching the Season D episodes just four days apart from their original transmission dates.

Would people’s preference be:
1. A double header next Tuesday with Moloch at 7.45pm and Death-Watch at 8.45pm.
2. Moloch on Tuesday at 7.45pm and Death-Watch on Wednesday 7.45pm.
3. Moloch on Tuesday at 7.45pm and Death-Watch on Thursday 7.45pm.

Vote by the end of Friday, so that I can set up the Death-Watch thread on Saturday.

Not one of my favourite episodes - it's actually quite nasty and misogynistic in parts. The Moloch puppet looks awful as well.

This is my least favourite ep - not just because it's nasty and misogynistic but because the nasty misogyny seems intended to be played for laughs ("Give her to your men" ) and the creepy Doran seems intended to be Vila's lovable pal.

I'm not around next Tuesday, so will be missing it - so won't be doing my usual rants! But I'd be sorry to miss Death Watch, which is one of my faves.

I enjoy this episode a lot: it's a gift for Avon/Cally shippers, it feels like a light-hearted sitcom with Liberator crew, a last breath before jumping into the abyss of angst and pain - except dumb and disgusting misogynistic parts, but they take up maybe 3 minutes total and I always fast forward through them.
And I think Moloch himself is hilarious. Wink

So, about Avon and Cally in "Moloch": it's entirely possible to presume they are in relationship in this episode. Of course you don't have to, but you can, if you wish.

We've never seen Avon so mellow, open and easygoing as in this episode. He's also a tiny bit whipped - see how he talks to Cally about teleport, he's almost in awe at her cleverness. And they both look great here - dare I say glowing. Smile

Added bonus is a time frame: Ben Steed gives them at least 27 days chasing Servalan to Sardos, and 27 days going back. 2 months when anything can happen. Smile Poor Vila even gets fed up with Avon and Cally leaving him out - callback to Voice of the Past here (which I also love).

static.diary.ru/userdir/5/5/1/9/551988/85702032.gif

Then we have hilarious teaming up of Servalan and Vila, we have Avon protective about both Vila and Tarrant, we have Avon and Dayna playing Eve and Adam (yes in this order).

And we have Moloch joke in the end - Cally must have thought it's Tarrant malformed by the teleport and I'm always laughing here at her reaction.

As for Doran - I'm going easy on Ben Steed here because Doran is what Terry Nation wanted Gan to be, originally. I'm looking at Doran with relief at dodging a bullet. Imagine having a guy like that on Liberator in a regular cast - ewww.

So yeah, for me Moloch is Gambit of Season 3 (minus icky parts) - last moment of levity and fun before all hell breaks loose.

I hope people will decide to split episodes over 2 days - I can't watch 2 in row while at work, also it's too much to process and to comment on if there are 2 episodes at once.

I agree it would be better to do it over 2 days. I think some of us are watching in our lunch breaks? So a day or two in between makes sense. Also agree with Mrs U. In that we usually have a lot to say on one episode and we need space - ! - before starting on a second story.

TT, are you going to conduct us at CA4 singing the Freed Convict's song? We can have a sing song as we march into the hotel's convention venue!

It needs to be accompanied by a harmonica - does anyone have one and does anyone know how to play it? Smile

We've had a couple around the house since the kids were little, I'll see if I can find one.

I think you should work out the harmonies. A bit of choreography too. And film it.

Yes, we are. Grin (and it was your suggestion Wink )

Do Brad's musical skills involve being able to play the harmonica?

Vote over for "Death-Watch" - next Wednesday wins. I did a Vila and cast a last-minute vote for what had already won - I like to stay with the winners whenever possible Wink

Getting ready for my muted Youtube rewatch.

And it's that time of the year again: could I humbly ask not to post football scores or reactions here as Champions League matches will be going at the same time, and I'm taping them to watch later. Smile

Been a heck of a day catching up after a day off (and computers crashing), but I am almost there. May actually make this.
