35th Anniversary Barney Rewatch - Voice From The Past
Hugbot
Well, not one of my favourite episodes (daintily put), but I just love the surreal scene with Servalan on the big screen.

Thanks for the company!

Littlesue asked me a question in e-mail and gave me good excuse to do a belated rewatch!
I'm sitting here with a white-and-pink flower print loo roll and the medaillon. I think both props go well together.
I will read your comments while watching, I'm sure fun is guaranteed!

Are these genuine yoga positions or are the actors/the director making them up?

To bad Lurena has to work tonight, she teaches yoga and could have told us. -P

Yes, next to other profession I'm a part time yoga teacher too.

And yes, those positions are genuine!

I give you the Sanskrit names and the purposes:

Cally : Samasana, an easier variation of the Padmasana (Lotus position). This position is suitable for people who are not supple enough to have their legs crossed over each other. This is a position for meditation.
Avon : Shirsha Virasana, stretching back and relaxing hips. Suitable for back pains.
Blake: Dhanurasana, a stretching for more experienced practitioners. Blake ( actually Gareth!) seems to be good in it as he is doing a level up and breathes in it. (speeches) This position is for stimulating digestion and to keep the spine supple and strong. It is also suitable to slim down back and belly.

You see there has been good thinking about, which pleases me very much!

Gareth isn't wearing make-up in this scene with Vila. -P

No make-up or just different? Can't really tell...

After working in chemistry science I spent ( and still do) a good part of my life in theatre and couldn't restrain my curiosity about things you come across, beit on stage, or backstage. Hunger for knowledge never stops me studying and yes, I'm a make up artist too... (don't ask what else, it's going to show my age!!)
Gareth is wearing make up.
In those days the studio lighting was of the kind that didn't allow you to be seen without make up.
Gareth's design here has to show Blake had a hard time and he's ill.
The make up has to be paler than usual, which, in the lightning, comes nearer to the actor's real complexion.
His feverish perspiration must have been created with the Glycerin-water spray.

I have never caught a B7 actor without make up. However, badly done ones, I did see.
Hope this answered your question.

I think that suits Shivan/Travis well. Grin

Hope you had a good solo rewatch and renounced lots of things. Smile

The B7 marathon continued last night with Voice from the Past...

Hmmm... Sorry guys. It gets off to a very bad start with all the stuff about Blake being under mind control, everyone standing around talking about it for half an hour, Vila suddenly becoming an simpleton for this episode and the tug of war with the ships destinations... (God the Liberator takes a bloody long time to turn round...) And we also get to play "spot the Spacesuit" when one of the Invisible Enemy Titan Space helmets gets re-used in this episode...

But the last 20 minutes is quite exciting though, when the faceless Federation troops turn up and shoot straight for a change...

Travis also seems to have caught the stupid bug in this one as well. He spends the whole episode in dodgy make up overacting wildly (I still have no idea on how the back story in this episode works... By all accounts Travis would have to have been in the rebels asteroid base for ages before Blake turns up... And he couldn't have just arrived in his Claude Rains invisible Man outfit and eat all the scenery - how would the rebels have known who he was supposed to be???).

With the Fed's massacring everyone in the conference centre, its only a matter of time before they kill the trapped Blake and co. Travis has a golden opportunity to wipe out the Liberator crew and secure the ship but instead chooses to teleport back down to the planet, allowing the now free Cally and Avon to teleport Blake and Co back to the Liberator so they can get away...

Oh, and don't get me started on the "Well-that-about-wraps-things-up-for-this-week--good-job-too-as-we-only-have-10-seconds-before-the-credits-roll" ending... Much more should have been made about the effects of Blake being under mind control, the death of the rebel leaders and that Blake, unwittingly, nearly killed all the crew once more...

Just. plain. dumb.

Its a real shame as I felt the episode before this one, Countdown, was easily one of the best episodes in the series so far.

I haven't watched many of these episodes since they were first shown all those years ago, and other than the key episodes (Pressure Point, Orac, Star One etc) so it feels like i'm watching many of them for the first time. I'm enjoying them, but some of them (This one, Hostage...) really needed a major re-write before they went before the camera's...
