A new group for B7 Fanfiction on FB

I'm toying with getting a link to my first ever B7 Story from 1983.
I'm not techno savvy, but I'm going to give it a go.
It seems that the Archive of Our Own doesn't support piccies, at least as far as as I can see, but I've put All Our Tomorrows there, not yet 'published' as I have to remove the page numbers. So I'm still working on that.
I'm hoping to link it to my Website, and also to my bookshelf where it is stored as a PDF complete with piccies
With regards to Facebook, I think you have to use your real name so that people can find you in the search facility, but I'm sure that you can fib if you really don't want people knowing who you really are!! Grin
One wonders where all the stories from the last 40 years have gone?
I'm still trying to scan in the zines that I have so that new fans can see exactly what was going on back in the day.
I'm midway scanning in Orbit 3 (or is it 4). Once that's done it will be up on my 'bookshelf'.
Cold.....you don't know the meaning of cold.

I'm likewise toying with the idea of putting some of my stories 'out there' - the reason I haven't done so yet is because I can't decide whether to go with AO3 or Fanfiction.net (which is where Purplecleric puts her fic).

I'm hoping to link it to my Website, and also to my bookshelf where it is stored as a PDF complete with piccies

And here, please, Littlesue?! I've started a brand new thread for the purpose: Links to fanfic

With regards to Facebook, I think you have to use your real name so that people can find you in the search facility, but I'm sure that you can fib if you really don't want people knowing who you really are!! Grin

That used to be the case (some people had FB pages in their pets' names) but I read that they're now demanding proof of identity - people were having to scan and send copies of their passport before being accepted!

One wonders where all the stories from the last 40 years have gone?

You should see the Supreme Commander's shed/attic/living room! Oops

I'm still trying to scan in the zines that I have so that new fans can see exactly what was going on back in the day.
I'm midway scanning in Orbit 3 (or is it 4). Once that's done it will be up on my 'bookshelf'.

Have I got a story in one of those? It rings a faint bell! You are a truly wonderful custodian of zines & fanfic, I salute you!

I didn't know about "Sue's B7 Zine Shelf" -- I'm delighted to discover it! I want to post about old stories in the FB group, the ones from the time of paper zines, so any help is appreciated :)

Unfortunately a couple of 'oldies' I have written to no longer have their old zines. They didn't think anyone would be interested in them after so long and they needed the room!!!

With regards to Facebook wanting passport details...blimey. They never asked for mine all those years ago. How things change.

A weekly digest for B7 Fanfiction group, 28 Dec - 3 Jan

Several stories were reviewed in the group this week:

JUSTICE by Judith Proctor is a trilogy of stories (titled "Justice", "The Price of Justice" and "Whose Justice?" ) which were originally published in the Gambit zines, ed. by Jean Graham, issues 12-14. The premise is that Avon has killed Blake's clone on Gauda Prime, for which the real Blake and other rebels put him on trial. At first Blake wants revenge for the clone who was like a brother to him, but when he is reunited with Avon, things become more complicated.

https://archiveof...ies/317408

SLEER AND BACK AGAIN by Vilakins is a story which takes place in the B7 universe, but draws on The Hobbit for its storyline. Vila is sitting in front of his comfortable homey hole enjoying a sunny morning... and then a number of unexpected visitors turn up to drag him in an adventure.
Servalan, of course, is the dragon.

https://archiveof...ks/1691753

Starting on 2 January, I also reviewed a number of stories whose plot is related to "The Way Back", to celebrate the episode's anniversary:

RENOUNCE, RENOUNCE by Aralias was first published in the zine Pride and Prejudice. It is a pre-series story, told from Avon's point of view, as he and Anna are watching the broadcast of Blake's first trial and his confession.

https://archiveof...ks/4922830

MIRROR IMAGE by Astro Girl is a story in which Blake finally finds out who betrayed the Freedom Party.

https://archiveof...orks/25552

A GOOD PAIR OF BOOTS by Kalypso: in this story Blake is 16 years old and befriends an old cobbler who lives in the Delta levels of the dome.

https://archiveof...ks/7966003

OF BUTTERFLIES by Natasha tells a story about what happened to other rebel groups on Earth (Bran Foster's and Kasabi's) at the time of Blake's first arrest.

https://archiveof...s/25307037

LIFE SENTENCE by Jean Graham tells a story of how Avon was arrested, tried and sent to Cygnus Alpha. Previously published in Gambit#7.

https://archiveof...ks/4792760

I've just gone over and signed up. Strange thing, there is already someone on FFN and AO3 who is using Littlesue. So I've had to add a number. Whoever it is hasn't posted any stories.
Now to decide which one to go with...

I've also had to add a number to my name on FFN. I don't get so many viewings for my stories there as I do on AO3, but on the other hand, it seems one is more likely to get some serious feedback/review on FFN, whereas on AO3 people just press the kudos button. I enjoy discussion and criticism -- even if someone doesn't like my story, I like to understand what it is they don't like.

You're most welcome! If you happen to read some of those stories (or have read them earlier), let me know your thoughts.

Is your own fiction available online?

Only in print zines and on this website at the moment, but I'm planning to share some of them on AO3 and/or FFN.

Here are two:
Rehearsal
Empty Chairs

and of course the monthly Ficlet Challenges!

Oh, Empty Chairs, one of my favourite songs from Les Mis! I see this one is about Gan's empty chair -- very appropriate.

Thanks for the links to your stories :) I'll send some feedback after I've read them.

It's beautiful! Thanks for the link. Don McLean is great.

I don't know if you're familiar with this B7 fan video (to the tune Empty Chairs from Les Mis)?

I've just finished reading "Empty Chairs". Very fine writing! I am grateful for your balanced characterization of Blake -- I'm glad that you've depicted him as truly grieving for Gan's death. Also, you have interpreted his motives correctly, IMO -- by showing he really needs to spend some time alone in order to reconsider his leadership and decide how to continue fighting the Federation. I am saddened when I come across fans who believe Blake teleported to that planet in "Trial" just in order to manipulate his crew! (Even though Avon says sth along these lines I don't think he really means it Smile)

Your presentation of Vila's friendship with Gan is also very convincing. I, too, believe that Gan was Vila's closest friend aboard the Liberator.

At the moment I am trying to collect stories which are related to individual episodes, so I was glad to discover "Rehearsal" for that reason, too -- so far it's the only one I've found which is related to "Breakdown". (Though I may have come across some bad ones and forgotten them :)).

Any chance that you will join the fanfiction group on FB, Winnie?

I know someone who wanted to do a zine of 52 short stories, each one putting a twist on each episode, or adding something to them in some way. It never happened, but "Rehearsal" was the story that inspired the idea.

There are a few stories in our Fan Fiction section that might fit the bill:

"Animal Nature" - follows directly on from "Animals".

"Entry Point" - To say anything would be to give away the connection.

"Loose Ends" - ditto.

"The Price You Pay" - coda to "Gold".

There are definitely others out there too. Nicola Mody wrote a sequel to "Mission to Destiny". I also recall an excellent short filk by Dayzee(?) Chain about Vila and the glycolene ballast channels (from "Animals"). I'm sure it was pointed out in our fanfic recommendations thread by the resourceful and ubiquitous winnie-l, so you might find a link to it there.

Do you have a list of what you've got so far? It would be interesting to see.
