A weekly digest for Blake's 7 Fanfiction group Stories reviewed this week: REHEARSAL by Jackie Emery is a short humorous story which takes place during the episode "Breakdown". Are Avon's scathing remarks completely spontaneous, or does he take some time to perfect them? http://www.blakes...icle_id=57 SILENCE by Michelle Birkby is a short story about the relationship between Cally and Avon. http://www.hermit...&COUNT THE LIGHT by Babel is a Fourth Season story about Blake and Jenna. Before Blake starts recruiting on Gauda Prime, he asks Jenna to go into hiding. https://archiveof...rks/144950 On the anniversary of "Time Squad", the first episode in which Cally appears, two more Cally stories were discussed: One of the most famous stories about Cally (which many also consider the best) is THE QUIBELL ABDUCTION by Lillian Shepherd, originally published by the Liberator Popular Front and later by Lillian Shepherd herself. The story may be read at http://archiveofo...rks/332809 And OPEN SEASON by Alicia Ann Fox: https://archiveof...ks/4783853 In the news section, a new challenge has been posted to b7friday: the prompt is to write a story about minor characters. https://b7friday....45810.html Also, Sue Little has informed us that her story "Zero Hour" (2014) will soon will be available on AO3. A weekly digest for B7 Fanfiction group This group is on Facebook, at https://www.faceb...741185308/ The following stories were posted to the group: ZERO HOUR by Sue Little https://archiveof...s/30749757 "This was written back in 2014, but Lara and I collaborated for the first time back in 2012 when Big Finish ran a competition for entries for a new book; we didn't win, but we enjoyed ourselves so much we have continued writing together." THE LIGHT by Babel is a Fourth Season story about Blake and Jenna. Before Blake starts recruiting on Gauda Prime, he asks Jenna to go into hiding. https://archiveof...rks/144950 BLAKE by Neil Davies 25 years after Gauda Prime and on a remote penal asteriod the son of Roj Blake faces a live in captivity, until an alien craft crashes offering hope of a different future. www.fanfiction.ne...40/1/BLAKE THAT I LIVE by Natasha "In Seek-Locate-Destroy, Blake talks about his first encounter with Travis. When the Federation attacked, the members of his rebel group were unarmed, so Blake had to grapple with a guard to get a gun. I wondered, how did he manage it? Was it perhaps because that guard didn't want to shoot? And what if the two of them (Blake and the guard) met afterwards? Those were the questions that inspired me to write a story." https://archiveof...ks/8815969 There was also a discussion of Discworld/Blake's 7 crossovers, and two such stories were mentioned: ONE FOR THE ROAD by still_lycoris https://archiveof...ks/3575571 THE WRONG SIDE by Hafren https://archiveof...orks/22673 In the news section, there is a new FANFIC CHALLENGE on Horizon: http://www.blakes...ad_id=2460 To end with, a poll was conducted in the group where the members voted for their favourite GUEST CHARACTER -- the one they'd like to see in fanfiction, or write about. Can you guess which one got the most votes? |

A weekly digest for B7 Fanfiction group The following stories were reviewed: THE CHOICE by Sondra Sweigman was originally published in Dark Between the Stars#5, ed. by Kristy Merrill, in 1993. The Liberator crew are Servalan's prisoners. Servalan allows Blake to choose the manner of his death: by firing sqaud or by torture. The catch is that the death he doesn't choose will be inflicted on Avon. This excellent Blake-centered story was posted in memory of Gareth Thomas on 12th February, which would have been his birthday. https://archiveof...rks/224022 SHANE by Judith Proctor is a crossover with the famous Western movie (and the book on which it was based). The story is about Avon as a lone gunman after Gauda Prime. https://archiveof...ks/4734134 Other stories posted by members: TROJAN HORSE by Alex Pinfold is a Season D story: "Each of the four chapters is told from the viewpoint of a different regular character, coming together to create one adventure for the Scorpio crew." https://thevelvet...horse.html THE DREAMCATCHER by Akisame8: "My latest story on AO3 is centered mostly on Deva right before the fatal day on Gauda Prime." https://archiveof...s/13569621 Other group activities: a poll was conducted where the group members voted for the kind of crossover story they'd like to read. Most people seem to favour B7/Doctor Who crossovers. For those who'd like to join, B7 Fanfiction group is on Facebook, at: https://www.faceb...741185308/ |

Are there any examples?" (Jackie) "I have been spinning around my mind a story immediately following Cygnus Alpha that tells of why it was Blake that takes over Liberator, i.e., why would Jenna and Avon follow him and not simply take the Liberator themselves... I have avoided writing this down, because it seems stories like this are met with anger from the “that’s not canon” brigade" (Malcom) "This site generates a random first line which you can use to start writing a story. A weekly digest for B7 Fanfiction group The following stories were reviewed: THE THOUSANDTH MAN by Helen Parkinson was first published in Gambit#13, ed. by Jean Graham, in 1995. It is an alternative version of "Rumours of Death" in which Avon has been recognised in prison. Servalan decides to use him to exert pressure on another prisoner -- Blake. http://archiveofo...ks/4758200 SARTORIALLY CHALLENGED by Nico Mody explains the reason behind some rather strange wardrobe choices we encounter in B7 http://b7friday.l...51117.html GAME OF HUMANITY by Sheila Paulson was first published in "Probability Square", ed. by Laura Virgil, in 1989. Blake and Avon are stranded on a planet where they encounter an initially hostile, primitive society. It all turns out to be a game played by some advanced alien race, but its purpose isn't revealed until the very end. http://web.archiv...manity.htm IN THIS LONELY PLACE by RileyC is a PGP story where everyone believes Avon is dead. https://archiveof...rks/400188 In the news section, Rebels and Fools zine#2 is accepting submissions: https://rebelsand...he-ongoing Also in the news section, two fanfic challenges have been posted to Horizon for March: http://www.blakes...ad_id=2492 Discussion topics: Watched "The Way Back" again tonight and was struck by how much I'd love a series that was more in keeping with the tone and setting of the pilot... If anyone wanted to write Ravella and Maja leading the resistance inside the dome after their menfolk were murdered, I'd be thrilled to read it. A weekly digest for B7 Fanfiction group Not much has been going on this week (I'm too busy fighting the Federation) Story review: CIRCLE OF FIRE by Suzan Lovett is an AU version of the events on Gauda Prime. Lovett's explanation of the title: "If trapped within a circle of fire, the scorpion will turn its deadly sting on itself." https://archiveof...ks/8529349 In the news section, a new challenge has been posted to b7friday: Female Characters "The challenge this time is to write from the POV (1st, 3rd, or even 2nd person; up to you) of any female character you like, including your own original one." https://b7friday....47017.html Raine has posted a very fine drawing of Blake and Avon -- hopefully it will inspire some new fanfic :) This group is on Facebook, at https://www.faceb...741185308/ |

A weekly digest for B7 Fanfiction group Stories reviewed in the group/recommended by members: STRAIGHT UP AND BITTER by still_lycoris: in this story, B7 characters appear in a contemporary setting. Blake runs a coffee shop called the Liberator (and also uses it to host political meetings). Avon walks in one day just to get out of the rain. https://archiveof...rs/3016156 HONESTY by Willa Shakespeare: Gan decides not to follow Blake's plan in "Pressure Point" and teleports back to the Liberator. https://archiveof...ks/1302523 TRADING DREAMS by Astro Girl takes place after Star One. Jenna has acquired a ship of her own and returned to smuggling. When she meets Blake again, she needs to decide whether she still believes that some dreams are worth having. https://archiveof...orks/25699 TEARS BEFORE BEDTIME by Executrix: "All of the characters appear in this fic as kids. It's a bit silly but I like it." https://archiveof...rks/219232 Some members discussed the ideas for their projected stories: "I am working on a much longer story, where the Federation is placed politically/socially sort of between what we consider 'normal' and the universe shown in Brave New World by Aldous Huxley, (where the people classifications and soma come from). After all, the Federation is about CONTROL of people. I think they start to withdraw from the Galaxy "if they are going to fight it, let them get on with it" and concentrate on Earth. Not really a B7 story, but they are part of the legend." (Sally) "Idea. Blake and Avon end up together on Sarran with Servalan. Using wreckage the three of them must work together to build a new ship. Meanwhile Servalan plans to steal Orac (as always) but succeeds in making an alliance with the Sarrans and Dayna gets to use some of her more unique weaponry in order to protect Blake and Avon as they complete the repair work. Meanwhile the Liberator is infiltrated by Tarrant and the others and they must find a way to defeat Zens defence challenges... just a thought..." (Luke) A poll was created on female characters: "Since this is a new story topic on b7friday, I thought I'd create this poll. Which female character would you like to write/read about in fanfiction? Which one do you think has a potentially interesting backstory, or should be further developed?" If you'd like to join in, B7 Fanfiction group is on Facebook, at https://www.faceb...741185308/ |

It was IIRC actually the start of a fairly long AU series. I wasn't crazy about all of it, but it was admiringly well written (charmed by author's style = semi-trumps some somewhat tiresome character tropes).https://archiveof...rs/3016156 HONESTY by Willa Shakespeare: Gan decides not to follow Blake's plan in "Pressure Point" and teleports back to the Liberator. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on these stories, Winnie! I've only read the first few installments of "Straight up and Bitter", and I've liked them for their originality. But if there's no further development of the political aspect of the story I think I'll eventually lose my interest. "Honesty" I think has a few plot holes, but I like it for its happy ending :) |
