Never let it be said! Anyway, 1991 was the year hubby & I got together, so how old does that make us? (Don't answer that Oops )

A great Composer that was able to take a TV show and make it an Epic with just a handful of Musicians playing his scores. Who could ever forget the (original '70's) haunting theme to The Tomorrow People? His music will go on to entertain new audiences and inspire new Composers.

He was one of the greatest composers ever. And to think most of his scores are not available as isolated soundtracks becasue of the BBC's tendency to remove important stuff from the archives. Rest in peace good sir, rest in peace.

I wonder if they all exist on paper though? If yes, they could easily be reproduced.

Are there any musicians on the forum? Only I read somewhere that John Wilson (he of the orchestra on the Proms) had to listen to the actual recordings of some of the old music from way back when and literally rewrite it note for note so that his guys could play it as it was once played by the studio orchestra...back in the day.
BTW, can anyone tell me what instruments are being used to play The Persuaders theme?

I wish I hadn't sold my copies of the newsletters now. I was a member from late 1989 to end of 1998. I meant to renew but never got round to doing it. I was member 1580 I think.

Very sad news. A talented individual and iconic music. He lived to a great age.

RIP Mr Simpson

Waah! Hides under table. Mind you, it's quite fun to see how young & slim we were back then.

genius composer, the soul of Blake, Who, Tomorrow People, Moonbase3. Apparently JNT was jealous of his house so didn't employ him anymore for Who compositions! Always loved the way Dudley said "Mirimba..."on the Whos Dr who documentary. His scores for genesis, morbius, planet, Ark, all sublime

briggsy1
Well if that is true what an appalling reason for sacking someone.
According to his Wikipaedia entry he also had a cameo in Talons of Weng Chiang so next time I rewatch it I will play a game of spot Dudley.

Sad news!
Next watch of B7, will listen more closely for, as the Down&Safe podcast* put it, "Dudley Simpson 'bassooning' around..."

They've been very quiet for a long time. I follow Liz and Amal on Twitter, and they don't mention B7. Amal recently won a Hugo award this year for her story Seasons of Glass and Iron and seems to spend her time commuting between Canada and Scotland, so I guess her life is full of other things.

I wrote Dudley Simpson a fan letter. He replied, very kindly, and I imagine the response is still somewhere amongst my papers. What a great age he lived to. I always watched out for his name in the credits of tv shows.

Dudley Simpson is to feature on tonight's edition of "Last Word" on R4 at 8.30pm.
