It's just been announced on Twitter that Dudley Simpson passed away last night, age 95. The composer of such many iconic TV scores, he and his music will never be forgotten. RIP Twitter: @TravisinaB7

A great age, and a wonderful life. Dudley's wonderful theme music, and scores for almost every episode are not only something I have enjoyed whenever I watch Blake's 7, but also a part of my psyche. So tonight I raise a glass. Nice one Dudley! |

Very sad to hear this. I was only reading a blog today that was discussing the important role that music played in Blake’s 7, and specifically in the episode Sarcophagus. Dudley Simpson had a big part in making Blake’s 7 such a very distinctive programme. |

Wow! Very sad to hear that. Another pillar holding up the Blake's 7 universe is gone. *Sigh*

Very saddened to hear this news...as others have said he created a unique sound for Blake's 7 that is an enduring legacy and something his family can be very proud of. Thoughts are with his family and friends at this time. RIP Dudley The foolish reject what they see;
the wise reject what they think. |

Such sad news. Thoughts to his family and friends. A fantastic legacy of work left behind, so many wonderful pieces of music. I always have a surge of joy when I hear the opening bars of the Blake's 7 theme, it generates instant happy memories and the prospect of many more to come. Thank you Dudley for this wonderful gift. ![]() Vila - "I plan to live forever - or die trying" |

He was one of the greatest composers ever. And to think most of his scores are not available as isolated soundtracks becasue of the BBC's tendency to remove important stuff from the archives. Rest in peace good sir, rest in peace. |

Sad news indeed. I echo the comments above. His body of professional work is amazing. When you actually dig into it, he was almost viral with his output. Look at the back of a lot of DVD's from the BBC from that era and you see the name Dudley Simpson. A class act. May he rest in peace. |

Unless the sheets have been burned or shredded or torn up, it could be done (hypothetically). |

Only I read somewhere that John Wilson (he of the orchestra on the Proms) had to listen to the actual recordings of some of the old music from way back when and literally rewrite it note for note so that his guys could play it as it was once played by the studio orchestra...back in the day. BTW, can anyone tell me what instruments are being used to play The Persuaders theme? Cold.....you don't know the meaning of cold. I got the feeling that Dudley was someone who shunned the limelight. I've never, to my knowledge, read an interview with him talking about his work on Dr.Who or Blake's 7. |

The Supreme Commander has forwarded me an interview Dudley did for Horizon (Newsletter 28, 1991 for those of you who still have them from the pre-digital age - bet you've got yours, littlesue!). I'm going to reformat it and get it up on the website. Twitter: @TravisinaB7
