Were any snails hurt Sue? Almost certainly. Avon would have souped up his snail with chemicals shortening its life and destroyed those he chose that didn’t win!
Just because I can't sing doesn't mean I won't.

Vila took the shell off his snail to make it go faster, but it just made it sluggish.

Lovely stories, Littlesue and Annie. A fitting tribute to the lovely late Scott Fredericks, and an interesting way to cure the blues! I once met someone who'd just had a holiday job working on a snail farm in France. He said: "It takes a certain sense of humour to be a snail farmer..."

Vila sat stirring his soma and Ja'lali spore cocktail, sure of his next move. Orac was humming away out of sight from the minders on the casino floor and Avon was keeping an eye on the security station. Vila contemplated the Kluge's next move. Orac was even more formidable an opponent than Vila but for each move Orac recommended, Vila found he had already been reaching for the same piece and the same move.

"Did you know that the Ja'lali spore has a somewhat seedy history?" Vila asked his diminutive opponent. "It's true, it didn't used to be considered a cocktail mixer like Auron Bitters. Two centuries ago it was outlawed throughout the civilized worlds. It wasn't just a sedative, it was a hypnotic. Whole planets fell under its sway and stopped bothering with defence or even food production. It was held responsible for the ruin of no less than seven systems and its trade was outlawed under penalty of death for over a hundred and fifty years."

Vila sips his drink. "That really is one hell of a drink."

Thank you, Travisina!

Blake's 7 left quite an impression on me and it's good to know I'm not alone in finding it one of the most compelling and tragic and endearing shows ever broadcast.

Just under the wire, so not proof read as thoroughly.

This takes place in the Big Finish universe, where they have just found Dayna.

Grant shouldered his bag. The mission was accomplished. They found Dayna. He had been paid. In truth he had walked into the strong room and taken the payment Avon had promised, no more, and certainly no less. He’d been on this job for far too long. The secret to being a good mercenary wasn’t the jobs you accepted, but the jobs you turned down. He’d spent a lot of time wishing he’d turned this one down, but now he was glad he hadn’t.

Still, it was time to go, and Grant hated goodbyes. Someone always asked where he would go next. Not saying goodbye precluded him having to tell some well-meaning soul that where he went was none of their damned business. People hired you, paid you, and yet somehow when the shooting was done they assumed you had become their friend.

Grant walked down the deserted corridors. It was ‘night’ on Liberator, and everyone was asleep except Vila, who was on watch. In other words, everyone was asleep.

Grant’s bracelet pinged. Zen’s voice announced, +Liberator is in teleport range of the planet Morphaniel as requested. Liberator will resume course in one minute+

Grant stepped into the teleport bay. “Orac, operate teleport as previously instructed.”

Liberator dissolved around Grant, to be replaced by docking bay 17 at Morphaniel Interplanetary Spaceport. Blake stood at the appointed place, carrying a large satchel. He approached and set it down. “It’s done then?”

“Yes,” Grant nodded. “We found Dayna. The search is over.”

Blake sighed a thank you. “There’s your payment, as agreed. Where will you go next?”

Grant bit his lip. “I’ll answer that if you’ll answer this. You never met Dayna, so why do you care?”

Blake answered. “Now that he has his full crew, Avon will get back to being a thorn in the Federation’s side. The pressure will be off of me, and I can get back to work.”

Grant chuckled. “So all this was just to stir the pot, to upset the Federation.”

Blake said, “Will you answer my question?”

“Where will I go? Wherever I’m needed the most.”

Blake smirked. “You mean wherever they pay the most.”

Grant shrugged. “Same thing, isn’t it?”

Blake held out a hand. “Join me. You found Dayna, help me find Jenna.”

Grant’s reply was interrupted by a roar of thrusters as a ship docked. Grant waited for the noise to subside. “Sorry, that’s one job I’m going to have to turn down. That's my ride. Goodbye.” He picked up the satchel and boarded the ship.

The pilot asked, “Are we leaving already?”

“The sooner the better. He’s out there.”

“Oh. Where to then? Do you have another mission?”

Grant answered, “It’s taken care of. Let’s go.” As Grant watched her set the controls, the thought occurred that on one job, at least, he had made a friend.

Is there going to be a December prompt?
Or can I post my part two on my allotted day?

I don't mean to speak for PC, and will defer her and to admin, but generally we forgo a December prompt in lieu of the advent calendar.

I would say post away right here, or if it's around 500 words or less, you could post it on Dec 24 as part of the advent free for all.
