Season B rewatch - B10 Voice From The Past
trevor travis
The episode: Barney Ten - Voice From The Past
The date: Tuesday, October 17th, 2017
The time: 7.45pm UK time

In which we renounce lots of things; Vila is very stupid; Travis wants his mummy; and Servalan steals the show when she appears on the big screen.

Join us and wrap yourself in loo roll, as we rewatch this... er.... 'classic' episode.

Oh, I nearly forgot. Avon wears a nice, black flowing shirt. There you go, Sue Wink

The scenes in the old Wembley Conference Centre are about the only redeeming feature of this episode.

The first half of this episode is decent - it's the second half that drags it down to what we in Italy call "pizza schlock". This was the first B7 episode I saw (albeit not in its entirety) thanks to the BBC VHS tapes.

pizza schlock - what a wonderful expression! Great mix of Italian and Yiddish Smile

I find the whole episode a drag - from the bizarre opening scene of them all doing yoga, to Vila taking an extra dose of stupid pills, to everyone's stupid accents. And that's before we get to Travis' triple-wrapped eye (a false eye on top of a bandage on top of an eyepatch - WHY???).

If that was the first ep you saw, I'm impressed that you became a fan!

While the crew lounges on their divans.
Blake meets that old rebel Shivan.
Blake quickly succumbs, and though Vila acts dumb.
He's smarter than Gov'nor LeGrand.

I was only about 9 or 10 when I first saw this (I was well versed in BBC sci-fi thanks to Red Dwarf and Classic Doctor Who, so I knew what to expect in terms of production values)... I didn't think much of it and I didn't go near B7 again until I got the DVD box set for Christmas back in 2008 (shortly after my 20th birthday)... which I plowed through in 6 weeks. Smile

looks like I'll be free to participate.

No school meetings, doctor's appointments or other children things.

I may just pause the DVD on an image of that rather nice computer expert wearing that black flowing shirt...and just sigh a lotGrin

The premise is fine, and very Blake's 7, the Federation secretly encourages rebels to act and infiltrates their numbers in order to entrap them. Very TWB. It leads one to wonder if the Feds were manipulating Blake at other times in the series. (Episode 52?). This for me, is the redeeming quality of this episode.

The execution, however, is appalling. The resistance has to be total fools. Vila has to be incredibly dense and unusually willing to involve himself in crew disputes. Avon and Orac have to both be suddenly incapable of disrupting a computer signal. Travis has to be under cover for ages, and yet still make it to Exbar and Space City. Better if it were a completely different Federation Officer. Better yet if Shivan had been conditioned the way Blake had Pre TWB.

Ready for this very special rewatch.

Brad has a very valid point about this one; good idea, horrible execution. I like to think that after this mess the crew did get their trip to Del 10.

Sorry...there's been an incident at school regarding language. So off I jolly well go.

It's probably talking in English, again. No rude words or anything. Just general talking in English, not in the English room.

Sometimes I hate living in Quebec.

One of my son's PS3 games features the gallery music from Vision On. It's scary at times.

Hi everybody!
I just had Pizza and managed to get home in time.
I have a pink design on my loo paper, does that matter?
