The good doctor is part of the way through transmitting the all important "formula"...

...."Oh my God!"....

..."Dr Belfriar ?? Dr Belfriar ??!! Blake enquired; the second time more urgently than the first.

....I've forgotten how to read".....

Dr Bellfriar, turns his palms asunder; as his gaze glazes, he stares at his now compromised hands with a last breath of horrifying comprehension, before letting out a primal, yet drowningly muffled scream.

....."Transmission ends"; states Blake coldly......

WinkSadAngryNow that is some good an' tense BBC style sci-fi horror !!

I have never known a time when I couldn't read.
Back in the day before preschool etc, you started infant school when you were 5...and it was expected that you could read something! (Good old Janet and John and Cat in the Hat!)
For me, not being able to read is something I just couldn't imagine, and the good Dr's words filled me with horror when I first watched this episode.
Cold.....you don't know the meaning of cold.
Cold is when you have ice on the INSIDE of the window!!!

Hi littlesue.

Agreed !! Reading is what sets us apart from the savages !! It is the rational light that illuminates the building blocks of everything. It frees us from the burden of archaic nonsense and superstition. It empowers, it heals and it gives our intellects succour from the mundane and the absolute.

My parents sent me to pre-school early, aged 3. At that stage I could independently read and enjoy my favourite Little Golden Books. My parents disapproved of Dr. Seuss books, they refused to buy them, so I missed out there Sad
Even at that age I was (apparently) already a firm Doctor Who fan. I still vividly remember watching Jon in B&W whilst galloping on my rocking horse in that same year. (Australia didn't have colour telly till 1975) Heck we only had 2 channels that both shut off at 11pm +-30 odd mins in the mid 1980s.....anyway, I digress Smile

Grandson has dyslexia, nowhere near as bad as daughter No. 2, but we realised that something was amiss, so I got out Janet and John and we started building his word list up in his memory.
He took a shine to Dr Seuss because of the rhythm of the words. It took some time, but one evening he eventually read Green Eggs and Ham all the way through without me prompting him! Love that book!!

I do not like green eggs and ham. I do not like them, Sam I am Smile

My favourites were Cat in the Hat Comes Back (the one with the pink snow), One Fish, Two Fish and the one that even the grownups found hilarious: Fox in Socks.

There's no point being grown up if you can't be childish sometimes

I always feel,so sad when Dr Bellfriar cops the lurghi,I prefer to remember the jolly lines from early on
Dr B "Just think Gambrill,in less than 20 minutes you could be shaking hands with an exomorph!"
Gamb "Not if it's hostile,I've got my pension to consider!"

Agreed, Killer is one off the best episodes, and the moment Bellfriar forgets how to read is heartbreaking.
