Password Reset
MrsMrOlag
I'm having trouble resetting my password after having to get one sent to me.
I forgot my password so had to have a new one sent, I copy/paste into the login screen and am able to log in. I then go to edit my site profile to set a password I'll be able to remember (not slashes and symbols etc) and it won't accept the password I just used to log in as my login password in order to change it. I've had to do this twice, both times had the same problem. I really just want to set a password I can remember Sad Can anyone help? I'm not a dummy, I know how this usually works! It simply isn't accepting the copy/pasted password as my login password- I have no idea what's going on!

THANKS!!!

Hi Mrsmrolag, I'll notify an admin, who will be able to do this.

Unfortunately we are in the age of passwords and the need to prove who we are... It happens to us all...

Hi Mrs Olag,

Password setting is above my level of admin powers, so one of us will contact Website Mutoid about this.

Meanwhile, I'm wondering - instead of copy-pasting your new password, have you tried typing it in manually? Copy-paste obviously works for the login box, but maybe the site profile area requires you to enter it manually. Just a guess, but worth a try.

On the subject of passwords in general, slashes and symbols are a good way of enhancing your password's security. The system I use for all my passwords (and I have lots & lots - a different one for everything I log into) is this - choose two lines of a song, take the first letter of each word and separate the two lines with a punctuation mark - comma, slash, exclamation mark etc. It also helps to replace some letters with numbers and mix capital and lower case.

So for example, if I were to use the B7 lyrics (NB this is just an example, not something I've actually done) -

There's a Distant Star,
In a Distant Sky!

That would make the password TaD5,1aDS!
A reasonably secure 10-digit mix of letters, numbers and punctuation - and easy to remember.
