Blakes 7 - Modelling
Spaceresearcher
Hello all,
Just thought I'd start this fan thread for those like myself who wish to build Blakes 7 models.

Chanced upon this great interview with Mat Irvine on YouTube:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=57ui-9lRJPM
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-u8cUPRDxeo

I'm always interested to learn what the actual components and parts are on the props and especially the spaceships.

Speaking of that, does anyone know the exact model of hairdryer used for the 2 sec Andromedan invasion ship?

What? Building models and replicas of things from Blake's 7? No, it'll never catch on! Grin

About the hair dryers used for the Andromedan scout ship - they were made by Morphy Richards, and there are two models that used the same casing - the 4822/01 (which I think is single speed) and 4828 (two speed). There's lots on eBay for 99p!!

Get invading!! Cool

Many thanks Exterminator, I've inquired into 2 of them and once shipped across the pond, can undertake the initial build of the first Andromedan battle ship. Smile The funniest part is the good condition, working status, seeming as I only really require the case. If I get them I'll be sure to offer the internals to anyone who's interested or collects hairdryer parts.

Somewhere I've got the list of kits that were used in the scout ship - from memory:

- Airfix M3 Lee/Grant tank
- Revell 1:48 Apollo Lunar Lander
- Airfix German E-Boat
- Airfix Space Shuttle
- Airfix 1:24 P-51D Mustang
- AMT Peterbilt 359 California Hauler tractor unit
- MPC or Kenner R2-D2 (you'll need two of these)

Plus 3 old "V" shaped Airfix display stand bases (one large and two small, for the "feet", they're used upside-down), and various EMA/Plastruct bits that I can't remember!

Some of the kits are quite expensive, and generally there's one or two parts used from each kit!! I always try and find kits that are part-built or incomplete and therefore not shiny and "collectable".

Hope that helps!

If memory serves this is an eye watering one for the bank balance isn't it?

Yes, you're right! Oh, I forgot to say - it's the bigger (1:25) scale AMT Peterbilt that's required, not the smaller (1:43) scale. As far as I know, the only part from this kit that's used is one of the cylindrical fuel tanks. It's actually one of the chromed parts of the kit, so if you find a trashed or part-built kit, make sure that's present.

Having a quick look on eBay, the California Hauler kits are about 60 ... there's another kit that might do, the Peterbilt Cabover Pacemaker 352 kit, it looks like it's got the same fuel tanks, and prices are ranging from about 20 to just over 30 (these prices DON'T include postage).

Way to go Littlesue and purplecleric. Costumes and props count in my firm opinion.

Many thanks Exterminator, that is a massive help. Very much appreciated. Just so you know I've got 2 of the hairdryers sorted. One is on the way and the other is just waiting for a total with postage. I thought the tops were R2-D2 heads. Sorry fellow fans, that's the pilot control seats centers of this serious Andromedan scout ship.

Amazing. Thanks for the heads up. Appreciated. Who would have thought that a spaceship had tractor parts in it?

Another project I have lying around is a partly assembled ore freighter I managed to obtain on ebay. I'll post photos and if anyone knows what's remaining, I'd certainly love to complete that as well.

With the Andromedan scout ship, I wanted to put one together before it becomes impossible to find those Morphy Richards hair dryers. They do pop up, but not as regularly as the aspiring Blakes 7 modeller would like.

HOORAY!!! The Starship can begin. Check out this picture of the 2 main parts before contructions. Smile

Does anyone know what parts I'd require to complete this starship? It's another famous Blakes 7 ship that get's about 3 seconds of screen time.

What do you call a man with two hair dryers? Anything you like except "Mr. Wet Hair"!! Grin

Oh, the ore carrier from Star One/Aftermath! I'm sure I've got some photos of it - I'll have a look. If you've got the ore carrier, I'll have to make the Nova Queen, perhaps then we'll bump into each other some time!! Grin

That's a really nice Scorpio!!

Thanks exterminator and when I'm UK side, that's a rendezvous to be sure. The meeting of the starships. Smile

Although there's only a couple of parts from those kits listed actually used to complete the Andromedan scout, I'm sure a lot of those remaining parts will become useful for the ore freighter and other Blakes 7 andromedan battle fleet ships.

Wouldn't it be terrific to re-create the whole fleet!!!! Smile

Speaking of classic starships has anyone seen a model of the space rats spacecraft outside of the screen time in Blakes 7?
