Blake's 7- the soap
(I bet I could sell that to the BBC )

Jenna is a young and beautiful smuggler. Money, fame and danger, what else could she want?
Until one day, she refused to run a drug shipment for the Terra Nostra and they gave her up to the security.
Convicted, out of luck, she only has her wits and beauty to relay on as she is convicted to exile for life to a distant planet.

While being transported to the penal colony, Jenna meets and falls for a handsome rebel. She helps in his attempt to take over the ship. Although the attempt fails, he proves to be a special kind of man, and Jenna finds herself even more attracted to him.

They manage to take over an alien ship that only she can pilot, for now. The rebel wants to use the ship and the riches and technology it carries for his rebellion. Jenna's own instincts would rather have them run for safety and enjoy their newly found fortune, and the third member of their team agrees with her. But he's a dangerous man, and Jenna doesn't trust him, although the temptation is great.

However Jenna can't bring herself to leave the handsome rebel behind. She sticks by him as he pushes everyone into more and more dangerous missions , with little success. He brings aboard another woman and seems to trust her more than he trusts Jenna with his plans and dreams. Jenna withdraws into her cold shell.

She sees him falling into zealotry and becoming more and more reckless and careless. While he treats Jenna with warmth and friendship, she needs more and he seems to ignore it. Jenna sees that her loyalty and suggestive outfits have no effect.

As their missions become more and more dangerous, Jenna realizes she's being led on, and that the rebel will never give her what she wants. She starts to realize he only regards her and the rest of the crew as tools for his cause. He risks his life and those of the crew to save other women.

Jenna realizes more and more that she's being led on, and that only death is at the end of it.
After their most dangerous mission which saw the rebel almost killed and the ship fighting against a massive alien fleet, Jenna finds herself with the man of her dreams, in a shuttle, busting out the ship that can no longer support its crew.

Down on the planet, Jenna realizes she deserves better than this. She leaves the rebel and finds her way on another ship, an attempt to be free of him and go back to her free trader life.

But this will not work. Jenna will come back and die for him.
I have concluded that Jenna is Blake-aware, Blake is Avon-aware, Avon is self-aware and Gan is rarely aware. Vila is merely wary. Cally is frequently more away than aware.

If you really want to flog it as a soap she needs to return with his love child in tow.

If Blake's 7 had been a soap and not a sci-fi show chances are it would have run for many more series - maybe it would still be going to this day.

And Vila would have seen the error of his ways and found religion, Blake would have needed an organ transport after Gauda Prime (cue much angst), Avon would have got himself a motor bike to go with the leathers and he and Soolin would have bought an inn. Their daughter would have taken drugs and eventually drowned in a swimming pool. Tarant would have opened a casino nearby with Dayna and he and Avon would regularly have informed on the other to the authorities because they were so competitive and...

This is very entertaining, you all seem to have hidden talents in literature. I don't do soaps (too much like being on a roller coaster out of control) but I would buy into this one!

That's why Jenna wasn't bothered about the Liberator picking her up. She wanted a nice safe planet to give birth and raise her young 'un.

As he grew, she regaled young Roj with tales of her adventures with his father. Eventually Roj came of age and decided to seek out his notorious dad.

Jenna, who had never found anyone who came close to her affections as Blake, and had secretly pined for him for years, set off with her son.

After Jenna was killed, Roj junior turned against Blake, blaming him for his mother's death, and began working undercover for the Federation...until the years of brutality he witnessed caused him to harness his genetic legacy of rebellion.

Thus, a new resistance leader was born....

Split between his desire to avenge his mother and the rebellious tradition of his father's side, Young Roj embarks on mission to find and destroy his father, the mysterious Count Blake. In his travels he encounters some of his parents' old friends and enemies and makes some of his own.
When young Roj gets himself into trouble, his mysterious father will have to return to save him, and tie up the loose ends of his own past.
20 years after Star One, Count Blake and Bishop Avon have to face their own past mistakes and each other.

(20 Years After in space. If it's gonna be a soap it better be classy and Avon is the closest thing to a jesuite one can think of at 8 PM on a wednesday

If it's a soap, then we need Tarrant to wake up to find Soolin in the Xenon Base shower room, and for it to be revealed that the previous year was a dream.... Wink

They will be like Colin and Barry in 80s Eastenders.

Jenna would have discovered this and realised the painful truth, that Blake never loved her. It was always Avon. He used her!

In her despair she lost her principles and worked for the Terra Nostra after all. She became an addict herself until various past friends did an intervention on her and she ended up in rehab in space with Vila who had finally sought help for his drinking.

As part of Vila's recovery programme he has to do a Step 9 - apologising to people he's harmed - so Jenna ends up ferrying him around the universe as he confesses to all his past thievery and larceny.

i guess my Dumas inspired vision may have to bow to East Enders' style.

if it's the previous year then there's no Soolin and they're still on the Liberator... and everyone has a horrid hangover.
Avon threatens to shave Tarrant's head if he doesn't stop breathing so loud

But it's a soap, it's been going for 39 years now. It Seasons 8-10 which were the dream seasons, so that Glynis Barber could return to B7 after Dempsey & Makepeace. Wink

"Avon is the closest thing to a Jesuit". You should read Executrix stories on Archive of Our Own. She's convinced Avon is a catholic and also wrote a Grahame Green pastiche story with Avon as a priest. It's both touching and very funny.

i have.
actually I'm thinking of him as Aramis, and yes I know she has a story about that

Oh yes good parallel Aramis. Don't you love the way Executrix writes the horror that priests feel when Avon goes to confession? I also love the background she gives him with his criminal matriarchal mother Jeanne who is also a staunch catholic.

it actually does fit... like a glove.
Blake would make a passable Comte De la Fere, WE already have Aramis... so 20 Years AFter is pretty well set up.

funny : I tend to forget how grim and murky British soaps are, as opposed to all of the other soaps.

and the only person Avon would possibly marry is Blake. Or nobody. I don't think the character would work well in mundane situations with someone else.
