@Angry Angel - mystery solved! I asked the Supreme Commander, who remembered that we saw Guards, Guards at the Hackney Empire. Phew!

I'll have to take her word for it! My memory is obviously fairly shaky, more east London than north.

Hackney is sort of north east London!

Ah, thanks Anniew, that makes sense. Can you remember how long ago it was?
. 1980s I think - about 5 years after Blake. but the memory cheats!!! Definitely after 1982 and before 1992.
Just because I can't sing doesn't mean I won't.

aww, that's nice Sooper, ta. I can't believe I put my hand up, like a kid in school, suppose I was overawed...
I saw him on stage in Crewe when I was a student, in JB Priestleys 'I have been here before.' He was wonderful in that too!
Great deja vu timeslip piece, one of Priestleys predilictions

I saw him in that down in Poole.
Even went to the Stage Door and had a chat, along with a few other ladies.
Cold.....you don't know the meaning of cold.
Cold is when you have ice on the INSIDE of the window!!!

I saw Mr D in many plays during the 80s...the last time in 1989 as we moved that year.
Terra Nova in Leatherhead.
Don't Start Without Me in Portsmouth (the evening Hubby got Avoned!)
Mr Fothergil's Murder in Poole as well as I have Been Here Before.

In Leatherhead, it was really cold and Sylvie White and I went to the stage door along with a couple of other ladies and were ushered into Mr D's dressing room as he was concerned that we would get cold. Pressies and cards were handed over. One of the ladies asked if she could take a piccie and he asked her not to use the flash as his eyes were still affected by the bright magnesium flash they had used that night. One of the pressies was a small dog ornament; a breed that Mr D and his wife were very fond of.

And for some reason it never occured to me to get a photo of me with him!
That was soon changed when Daughter No 2 took me to the Cinema Museum a few years ago and asked him (in the way only Sarah can ask) to have a photo taken with me.
At last....my own picccie of me with my hero! Grin

I also worked in Leeds on & off for 3 years, and sometimes struggle to tell apart the different accents on each side of the Penines.

I'm speechless Travisina! and accentless! I did the Pennine Way when I was 19,Dales folk are really hard to understand -and there are different dialects within Yorkshire, Barnsley is different from Leeds for example

There are subtleties everywhere, not always apparent (audible, I should say) to those from elsewhere. Writer/producer Kay Mellor, who I was working with in Leeds, wrote her scripts in dialect and would get told off by the actors if she got it wrong! Before I had friends from the US, I used to think all American accents sounded alike - no doubt non-Anglophile Americans think the same of British ones.

oh yes we do. Took me 3 years to get used to the Leicester accent, and Scouse is still weird and almost unintelligible
I have concluded that Jenna is Blake-aware, Blake is Avon-aware, Avon is self-aware and Gan is rarely aware. Vila is merely wary. Cally is frequently more away than aware.

Scouse is practically a different language, along with Geordie and Glaswegian.

I envy all of you who could move aroung the country to see my hero in the flesh. The North is a long way from nearly everywhere else exept Scotland and I was trapped there for many years, a bit like someone in a fairy tale only no Prince to come along. I also think my life has been like that movie, Sliding Doors, where you keep missing the one you want to see. I only got to see Macbeth (written for my hero it seemed) and in those days many actors told the world that they did not like being bothered by fans, so stupid me did not go to the stage door. However I belatedly went to as many sci fi does as possible and at last I met my Prince! He is the most kind and generous of people and hopefully I will see him and my friends in June. Thanks for letting me know there is more on You Tube than silly cats ( I do love cats though).

Well Silver and I almost had him all to ourselves last year at Brighton.
And then there we were sitting on the front row of his talk and he was right in front of us!
I mean to say, there were the two of us, (ladies of a certain age) giggling just like teenagers. And those gorgeous brown eyes....phew.
I wonder what happened when that young lady in the tight catsuit went off, at our suggestion, to see Mr D...we told her to tell him that two ladies of a certain age suggested that she pop over to see him....Grin
Roll on June....although it's going to be the usual greeting..."Oh no, not YOU again!"
Cold.....you don't know the meaning of cold.
